Press Release from TELETOON

(Toronto, September 14, 2010) – TELETOON presents the world premiere of the network’s first-ever original live-action feature, My Babysitter’s a Vampire, on Saturday, October 9 at 7 p.m. ET/PT. Directed by acclaimed Canadian director Bruce McDonald and featuring a cast of up-and-coming young Canadian actors, My Babysitter’s a Vampire is a family-friendly live-action film with extensive computer-generated visual effects and animation.

“TELETOON has a rich history of producing hit original programming and we’re thrilled to be teaming up with a highly talented creative team that includes award-winning Canadian director Bruce McDonald as we make our first foray into feature film,” said Carole Bonneau, Vice-President, Programming, TELETOON. “With a target audience of six to 12 year-olds, this film is the perfect way to make the popular vampire genre accessible to a younger audience.”

My Babysitter’s a Vampire follows 14-year-old Ethan (Matthew Knight: Flashpoint) who, along with his best pals Benny (Atticus Mitchell: How to be Indie) and Rory (Cameron Kennedy: Toronto Stories), is determined to shed his geeky image and finally be cool.  But when Ethan’s parents come home from their date night to find Ethan and Benny having an ice-cream-eating contest while Ethan’s eight-year-old sister wanders the neighborhood, they slam him with the worst possible punishment: from now on, he’s getting a babysitter on Friday nights.

Ethan is mortified when the babysitter turns out to be smokin’ hot Sarah (Vanessa Morgan: Harriet the Spy, The Latest Buzz) – the girl he’s been crushing on forever. But Sarah’s got her own problems. Her boyfriend is a vampire and she’s currently stuck between the human world of the living and the vampire world of the undead.  When Sarah leaves Ethan and Benny to save her friend Erica from suffering the same fate as her, the guys follow her and learn the truth: the babysitter’s a vampire.

My Babysitter’s a Vampire was developed by Fresh TV, in association with TELETOON Canada inc. In addition to direction by Bruce McDonald (The Tracey Fragments, Queer as Folk, Degrassi: The Next Generation), the film was produced by an award-winning creative team that includes Emmy-winning creators Tom McGillis and Jennifer Pertsch (6TEEN, Total Drama Island), screenwriter Tim Burns (An American Warewolf in Paris, Star Wars: The Clone Wars) director of photography Rudolph (Rudi) Blahacek (Real Time, Saving God, Wilby Wonderful, Do or Die), Production Designer Ingrid Jurek (Queer As Folk, The Tracey Fragments, The Good Witch) and VFX Supervisors Bret Culp and Martin Tori.

Viewers can tune in for even more vampire action during two encore presentations of the movie on Thursday, October 21 at 7 p.m. ET/PT and Sunday, October 24 at 7 p.m. ET/PT.  A 13-part series of the same name is currently in production and will air on TELETOON in 2011.

My Babysitter’s a Vampire is produced with the participation of the Canada Media Fund created by the Government of Canada and the Canadian cable industry, and with the assistance of the Canadian Film or Video Production Tax Credit and the Ontario Film and Television Tax Credit Program.
