Culver City/Vancouver-based visual effects house Zoic Studios bolsters its cadre of high-level visual effects talent with the addition of veteran Creative Director/VFX Supervisor/Flame Artist Simon Mowbray.  Mowbray comes to Zoic from Pixomondo where he served as Creative Director. He has received numerous industry awards over the years including a 2008 PromaxBDA Award in Digital Effects for his work on the spot “GMC Yukon – Dot Matrix” as well as several International Monitor Awards.  Throughout his 25 years of experience in visual effects, he has worked on commercial projects for such top brands as BMW, Target, Nike, Microsoft and Volkswagen in addition to music videos for the likes of Kanye West, DMX, Missy Elliot and Rihanna.

Notes Zoic Executive Creative Director and Co-Founder Chris Jones, “Zoic is very fortunate to have Simon on board.  Having worked with Simon and followed his career over the years, I’ve always admired him as a visual craftsman and for his technical discipline.  He is among those artists I consider a difference maker in any project he’s involved with.”  Adds Mowbray, “It’s wonderful to be at Zoic—there’s a great vibe of enthusiasm and professionalism, and such diversity of top-notch projects and talent.  Chris, Loni and Andrew have done an amazing job of building such a strong company.  I’ve already jumped into a few jobs, and I feel like I’m at home.”

Mowbray began his visual effects career in 1987, working at a number of top visual effects shops in Sydney amid the emerging years of CG and compositing.  In 1991, he moved to Montreal where he worked as a product specialist for Softimage.  From there, he helped found Discreet Logic in 1992, where he served as a Creative Director.  Two years later, he began as an effects artist at Western Images/Good Pictures, remaining there until opening Radium in 1996 with Jonathan Keeton.  The duo sold the boutique design and visual effects company to Reel FX in 2007.

While at Radium, Mowbray contributed as Creative Director to hundreds of film, music video and commercial projects including several MTV Award-nominated music videos and commercial campaigns for top national brands.  In 2007, he moved over to Ntropic where he worked as Creative Director/VFX Supervisor before heading to Pixomondo in 2011 as Creative Director where he developed and executed concepts for commercial projects.
