Return From Hiatus: Parnassus

Terry Gilliam's THE IMAGINARIUM OF DOCTOR PARNASSUS has recommenced shooting in Vancouver, VARIETY reports.

The film was put on hold after cast member Heath Ledger's death in New York on Jan. 22. Johnny Depp, Colin Farrell and Jude Law are all replacing Ledger for sections of the film.

The live-action section of the production had just been completed in London at the time of Ledger's death, with several weeks of bluescreen work in Canada about to begin.

The creative nature of the story allows for three actors to replace Ledger; it follows characters passing from contemporary London through a magic mirror into imagination worlds.

The realistic scenes with Ledger were complete, so Depp, Farrell and Law will play physically transformed versions of his character when he passes into other worlds.

In a statement to VARIETY, producers William Vince, Amy Gilliam and Samuel Hadida said: "Since the format of the story allows for the preservation of his entire performance, at no point will Heath's work be modified or altered through the use of digital technology. Each of the parts played by Johnny, Colin and Jude is representative of the many aspects of the character that Heath was playing."

Gilliam added to VARIETY, "I am grateful to Johnny, Colin and Jude for coming onboard, and to everyone else who made it possible for us to finish the film."

PARNASSUS also features Christopher Plummer, Verne Troyer and Tom Waits.
