FORREST GUMP writer Eric Roth has been brought in to rework RIPLEY'S BELIEVE IT OR NOT for Paramount, reports Deadline.com. Star Jim Carrey is still set to play oddity hunter Robert Ripley. The film follows Ripley's change from exploiting the strange people he finds into respecting their differences.
The project was set to start filming in 2007, but Carrey came up with new ideas that would have called for a major rewrite from then writers Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski. While he liked Carrey's changes, director Tim Burton couldn't stay around and moved on to helm SWEENEY TODD. The project then went to Chris Columbus and writer John Colle (MASTER AND COMMANDER), but never took off.
