Don Levy has been promoted to svp of marketing and communications, Sony Pictures Digital (SPD). In his new position, Levy will continue to direct the corporate communications, marketing and public relations for SPD's operating units, including Sony Pictures Imageworks, Sony Pictures Digital Networks, Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Online Entertainment. In addition, Levy will continue to be responsible for the coordination of marketing and brand strategy between Sony Pictures Digital and Sony Pictures Entertainment, Sony Electronics and others. He will report to Yair Landau, vice chairman of Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE).
Levy joined Sony Pictures Imageworks in 1996 during the group's founding stages. Since then, with Levy directing its communication efforts, Imageworks has gone on to become an award-winning vfx and digital character animation company. Last year, Levy oversaw the Academy Award campaign for Imageworks' animated short film, THE CHUBBCHUBBS, which garnered the group's first Oscar.
Over the years, Levy has assumed additional communication responsibilities as SPD has expanded to include Sony Pictures Digital Networks, which concentrates on mobile entertainment, broadband video delivery and personal media software and services, such as Sony Pictures Mobile, SoapCity Download and Screenblast; Sony Pictures Animation, formed in 2002 to produce all-CG animated feature films; and Sony Online Entertainment, the industry-leader in massively multiplayer online games.
Prior to joining Sony Pictures Digital, Levy served in a similar capacity with Sony Pictures Digital Studios, supporting the studio's digital production and post-production businesses. Levy joined Sony Pictures in 1995 as Columbia Picture's Awards campaign consultant working on the Oscar-winning campaign for SENSE AND SENSIBILITY.
Before joining Sony Pictures Entertainment, Levy spent six-years at Paramount Pictures where he was in charge of production publicity for that studio's motion picture group. Freelance credits as a production publicist include numerous films such as: THE LOST WORLD: JURASSIC PARK, 2010, BRAINSTORM and POLTERGEIST
Levy is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and received the Publicists Guild of America's highest honor, The Les Mason Award.
