Fuel VFX Brings Home the Bacon for BNZ

Press Release from FUEL VFX

FUEL VFX reunited with Curious Film's Josh Frizzell on a new campaign for BNZ. The spots feature some very cute CG piggy banks, which help bring family together under the banner, 'Wherever you're heading, we can help you get there.'

Each CG piggy bank was designed to reflect different family members: demonstrate how the bank can help customers in ways that suit their circumstances. The pig 'skins' were designed also to reflect their personalities: teen pig, the grandparents, farmer pig and kid's pig.

The shoot was set-supervised by Fuel's Andrew Hellen and lighting TD, Mike Bain, who both spent over a week on location, in and around Auckland. Mike Bain explains, "Much of our time was involved in gathering tracking information, and light references for each shot which included a fare amount of moving, hand-held camera and zooms."

Back home in Sydney, FUEL VFX supervisor, Simon Maddison, took charge of completing the animation and compositing, "The integration of the CG pigs, especially into shots of variable light and deep shadow, was challenging but in the end makes for some of the nicer looking shots." Maddison also notes that, "Josh wanted to really focus on the family connections, and integrate the animation into the family dynamic, so we aimed to make that as seemless as possible."

In addition to completing the 60 second 'Birthday' and 30 second 'Jetpack' spots, Fuel delivered an online animated campaign and artwork for print, in just over 3 weeks.
