Dimension to Remake American Werewolf in London

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER confirmed last night a scoop BLOODY-DISGUSTING.com broke initially: that Dimension Film has picked up the rights from John Landis for his cult horror classic AN AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON.

The rights were transferred in what is being referred to as a "competitive environment." Overture execs-turned-producers Sean and Bryan Furst will produce.

Landis' 1981 film starred David Naughton and Griffin Dunne as two Americans backpacking through the Yorkshire moors when they are attacked by a werewolf. Naughton's character terrorizes London while Dunne turns into a reanimated corpse who suggests ways for Naughton to kill himself to stop the curse.

A writer and director have yet to be hired. Producers are looking to make an elevated genre film that will keep the comedy elements of the original. Landis is set to exec produce and possibly consult.
