Cartoon Forum Kolding Attracts Record Attendees

The 16th Cartoon Forum, which takes place Sept. 21-25, 2005, in Kolding, Denmark, has a record number of broadcasters and investors expected to attend 101 television buyers and co-producers and 147 investors, video distributors and financiers. This co-production forum, which is dedicated to the financing of European animation programs for television, was first held in 1990 in Lanzarote, Spain.

Producers from the new member countries of the European Union will also be present, either with projects or as observers with the intention of coming next year with TV series projects. A total of 248 investors who will get a sneak preview of the 67 new projects to be presented there.

More than 750 participants will be in Denmark for the great annual get-together of the European animated series. France will have the largest representation with over 150 practitioners, followed by the U.K. (140), Germany (110) and Denmark (the host country, 100).

The 2005 CARTOON D'OR ceremony will take place before the closing party, to award the best European animated short film, giving typically young/indie directors money to make another film. The jury is composed of Karsten Kiilerich (Denmark), director of THE UGLY DUCKLING AND ME; Philippe Leclerc (France), director of THE SUN QUEEN and Peter Lord (U.K.) founder/producer/director at Aardman Animations (WALLACE AND GROMIT).

Five finalists have been nominated and these films will be presented to the participants at Cartoon Forum before the Cartoon dOr is awarded to the one winner.The nominations are:* CITY PARADISE by Gaëlle Denis (France).* FALLING by Peter Kaboth (Germany).* FLATLIFE by Jonas Geirnaert (Belgium).* JO JO IN THE STARS by Marc Craste (U.K.).* LITTLE THINGS by Daniel Greaves (U.K.).

Cartoon Forum Kolding has been organized with the support of the MEDIA Programme of the European Union and Danish partners the Danish Ministry of Culture, the Municipality of Kolding, Vejle County, the Danish Film Institute (DFI), the Nordisk Film Fonden, the Nordisk Film- & TV Fond, Filmkopi, the Nordisk Baltisk Film Fond and the broadcasters DR (Danmarks Radio) and TV2 Danmark.
