Aquaman Swims on the WB

Riding positive fan response to a guest appearance of the character on SMALLVILLE, The WB has greenlit a pilot for a potential AQUAMAN series, reported VARIETY, which The WB later confirmed. Produced by Warner Bros. TV and writers Al Gough and Miles Millar (SPIDER-MAN 2), the show will center on a twentysomething Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman. Gough and Millar will exec produce with SMALLVILLE vet Greg Beeman directing the pilot.

The show will reinvent the hero without the name Aquaman and will focus more on Currys desire to protect the oceans. Plotlines will focus around ocean polluters, evil oil companies, other environment and the mystery of the Bermuda Triangle where Arthurs mother mysteriously went missing. Other characters will include Arthurs adapted dad who an officer in the Coast Guard and a mentor who will help him train his newfound superpowers.

Actor Alan Ritchson, who Aquaman in a recent episode of SMALLVILLE, is not being considered for the series. However, there are rumors that ENTOURAGE star Adrian Grenier is being considered for the role. On his HBO series, Grenier plays an actor who lands the part of Aquaman in a James Cameron-directed feature version of the DC Comics character.

The pilot is set to be filmed in the Florida Keys.
