Xilam Pitches Pre-Historic/Adventure Series At Cartoon Forum

Xilam will be pitching its epic comedy/adventure series, RAHAN, set in a pre-historic world at Cartoon Forum, Sept. 20-23, 2006.

RAHAN (26x30), aimed at kids 7-13, is based on a famous French comic, created by Roger Lecureux, which was first published in the 1960s. The successful comic led to 180 stories published, in some 10 different languages, creating a vast European fan base that is still active today.

Set some 35,000 years ago in a land of exotic animals, lush valleys and warring clans, the pre-historic hero Rahan, sets out on a quest to see all of "those who walk upright" live in peace. Rahan is a great hunter, with strong moral integrity and a generous spirit, but he is only 16, and, in many ways, still naïve, impulsive and clumsy. Accompanying Rahan is Ursus, a funny fur-ball creature who is slightly quirky and chatty plus claims to be a mythical bear king.

This 2D/3D animated adventure series transports the viewer into an exotic world where magic and fantasy are closely intertwined and good overcomes evil.

French animation company Xilam has teamed up with Italian co-production partner Castelrosso Films to produce the series, and is aiming to complete finance soon to start production this winter. Two major European broadcasters, France 3 and RAI, are already signed up for the series.

Xilam founder/president Marc du Pontavice, said: RAHAN is a very magical property which combines adventure, comedy and imagination. We are delighted to have the vote of confidence from both France 3 and RAI and hope to lock down the last [bit] of financing soon, in order to greenlight production.

Xilam has produced internationally successful animated series for TV, including RINTINDUMB, OGGY AND THE COCKROACHES, RATZ, THE NEW ADVENTURES OF LUCKY LUKE and SPACE GOOFS (aka HOME TO RENT) and as well as KAENA THE PROPHECY, the first European feature-length computer-animated 3D film and GO WEST! A NEW ADVENTURE OF LUCKY LUKE in 2D/3D, now in production.

Xilam Animation (www.xilam.com) is an independent audiovisual and multimedia production company that creates, produces and distributes worldwide, top-quality animated content both 2D and 3D CGI for TV, film and videogame formats. Established in 1999 by du Pontavice, who owned the Gaumont Multimedia assets and catalog, today, the award-winning company operates from an extensive studio in Paris, employing a talented team of more than 150 people.
