Toei Drops Teaser for ‘One Piece Film: Red’ Feature

New animated film, created and produced by Eiichiro Oda, features a mysterious character, Red, who wears a headset microphone and sings to the sky; Japanese release set for August 6, 2022 with, with other regional debuts to follow.

Toei Animation has released a teaser trailer and poster for its new animated feature, One Piece Film: Red, an original story from creator and producer Eiichiro Oda. Goro Taniguchi (Code Geass series) directs from a screenplay by Tsutomu Kuroiwa 2. No details have been revealed about the character, Red, who wears a headset microphone and sings to the sky.

The movie is based on the One Piece animation franchise originally launched on October 20, 1999. Featuring Captain Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat pirates, the anime series boasts more than 990 episodes since it debuted on Japanese TV. The popular global franchise encompasses theatrical films, home videos, video games, and an ever-expanding catalog of licensed merchandise.

With musical notes overflowing from the score, the teaser introduces the viewer to a mysterious character. It is clear she holds the key to the story as the narrator poses an ominous question about “her voice.” As the teaser ends the face of Red-Haired Shanks appears, the pirate who inspired Luffy to go on his journey. What kind of adventure does this foreshadow for the Straw Hats and what trials await them? What is the secret behind “Red-Haired?”

One Piece Film: Red will be released in Japan on August 6, 2022, in Japan. Regional releases will be announced when available.
