RV Parks in First; Meltdown Passes First Ice Age

With $16.4M, Sonys RV took the top spot at the box office for the period ended April 30, 2006. Universals stirring and controversial UNITED 93 (with vfx from Double Negative) bowed in second with a respectable $11.4M. Buena Vistas STICK IT, another newcomer, landed with $10.8M. Last weeks winner, Sonys SILENT HILL (with vfx from Buf, C.O.R.E. and Mr. X), dropped to fourth place in its second week, with $9.3M and a cume of $34.2M. Dimensions SCARY MOVIE 4 followed in the fifth spot with $7.8M, good enough for a tally of $78.1M. Foxs THE SENTINEL dropped to sixth with $7.7M and a cume of $25.7M. Fox/Blue Skys ICE AGE: THE MELTDOWN dipped to seventh with $7.2M. However, with a cume of $177.8M, the 3D-animated blockbuster passed the first ICE AGE ($176.3M) and, with its foreign gross of $335M, now has a worldwide take of $513M. Debuting at number eight was Lionsgates highly touted AKEELAH AND THE BEE, which grabbed $6M. Ninth place went to Buena Vistas THE WILD, the 3D-animated feature from C.O.R.E., which caught $4.7M for a cume of $28.5M.
