To help get you in to the spirit of New Year’s resolutions animation production company Not To Scale (www.nottoscale.tv) have produced two spots that strive to promote a healthy start to the year. Directors Punga have teamed up for the first time with Weiden+Kennedy for The Guardian and The Observer’s latest Weekend supplement, Fit For Life and 7 Day Recipe Guide.
The first spot for Fit For Life, a 68 page guide to keeping fit indoors and out, opens with an animated man stretching in his home, psyching himself up for the first day of the rest of the year. As his hands part they release a rainbow that swiftly flows into a semi-circular pavement - 2011 begins with a bright new start with all the colours of this rainbow making up the pavement and world around it. Starting of in a happy positive way this spot ends with the rainbow pavement shooting to sky to reveal the guide bordered between the clouds, a metaphor perhaps that when it comes to the possibilities to keeping those new year’s resolutions, the sky’s the limit! Punga’s very own Tomi Dieguez, whose quirky style first attracted the creative team at Wieden+Kennedy, designed all the characters and sets.
The second spot is for the 7 Day Recipe Guide that consists of 70 recipes set to make you rethink what food you eat. The spot kicks off with breakfast from Yotam Ottolenghi whose grapefruits, after being sprinkled with a magic ingredient, shoot rainbows into Allegra McEvedy’s pack lunches. This rainbow guides us through the day’s meals swirling around to become one of Henry Dimbleby’s drinks, which in turn swivels with a nudge to become a fabulous feast from Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.
Both spots are a fun light-hearted push in a healthy direction with Punga bringing a bit of their Argentinean sun and cute style to help get us Brits out the door exercising and back in the kitchen cooking.
