Krypto the Superdog Premieres on Cartoon Network

Cartoon Network has launched a new cartoon canine to take a bite out of crime, Krypto weekdays at 9:00 am beginning April 4, 2005. KRYPTO THE SUPERDOG features Metropolis latest superhero, who also happens to be Supermans dog.

The adventures start with Krypto, a test pilot puppy from the planet Krypton. When the spaceship he was traveling in crash-lands on Earth, he is now a fully grown dog, all alone in a new world. Krypto has super strength, heat vision and the ability to fly. He promptly finds a new companion in Kevin Whitney, a young boy new to Metropolis who has trouble making new friends. They bond and Krypto becomes part of Kevins family.

When Kevin sees Krypto has superpowers, he quickly connects him to Metropolis most famous resident, Superman. Superman sees how much the boy and dog need each other and leaves Krypto with Kevin who has more time to play with him and the two can lavish attention on each other.

Kevin gets to help Krypto battle the forces of evil while keeping Kryptos superhero identity hidden from family and neighborhood friends. Joining them in keeping Metropolis safe are fellow four-legged crimefighters -- Ace the Bathound, Streaky the Cat and the intergalactic Dog Star Patrol. Together they take on such criminal masterminds as Ignatius, Lex Luthers spoiled, pampered pet iguana; Bud and Lou, The Jokers despicable pet hyenas and Isis, Catwomans evil and sultry Siamese cat.

Only Krypto can bury a bone on the moon or play a galaxy-spanning game of fetch. It is a colorful cosmic world in which weird techno gadgets can fall into the hands of toddlers, where growth formulas accidentally create monster caterpillars and selfless hounds patrol the solar system for signs of trouble and villains intent on taking over the world!

The series is heavily influenced by Hanna-Barbera cartoon designs, limited animation staging and influences in background styles, gadgets and characters reminiscent of RUFF & REDDY, YOGI BEAR, TOP CAT and THE JETSONS. The music and sound effects are quite familiar to early vintage HB TV toons. The outlines are a deep shade of gray with an interesting, thick heavy pencil stroke appearance.

KRYPTO THE SUPERDOG is produced by Warner Bros. Animation under the guidance of exec producer Sander Schwartz, supervising producers are Alan Burnett and Scott Jeralds, who also directs. Burnett and Jeralds are HB vets from the eighties. Paul Dini story edits with Burnett while Linda M. Steiner produces the series with assoc. producer J.C. Cheng. Christopher Keenan is creative exec while music is by William Anderson. Terry Klassen casts and voice directs the cast of Sam Vincent (Krypto), Alberto Ghisi (Kevin), Tabitha St. Germain (Andrea/Melanie), Scott McNeil (Ignatius/Ace the Bathound) and Brian Drummond (Streaky).
