Kevin Hart’s Adult Animated Comedy ‘Storytown’ in Development at HBO Max

Series comes from actor’s production company, HartBeat, and will feature original music from ‘Hamilton’ alum Khiyon Hurse.

A new, musically-charged adult animated comedy is on its way from Kevin Hart.

HBO Max is developing the series, called Storytown, with Hart’s production company HartBeat and Michael D. Ratner’s OBB Pictures, Deadline reports.

The team behind Storytown is currently working on an animatic presentation as part of the development process. Per the show’s synopsis: “When a grandson starts causing trouble in the streets, his grandfather begins to share life lessons he learned growing up with rapping fairytale characters in a place called Storytown.”

Songwriter and musical theater composer Khiyon Hursey and Harrison Richlin will co-compose Storytown and will also co-write the series with Woke executive producer Jay Dyer. Hursey’s credits include the Broadway productions of Hamilton and Witness Uganda.

Hursey, Richlin, and Dyer will serve as executive producers alongside Hart, Bryan Smiley, Mike Stein, and Tiffany Brown, and OBB Pictures’ Michael D. Ratner, Scott Ratner, and Elias Tanner.

The project reunites HartBeat and OBB Pictures, both of which are longtime collaborators on five seasons of Kevin Hart’s ice bath-bound interview show, Cold As Balls.
