Mumbai-based Crest Animation Studios Ltd., one of Indias leading animation studios has moved to a new state-of-the-art digital studio in Ghatkopar and has landed a big series deal with French producer Marathon.
The shift to this spacious 45,000-square-foot studio will accommodate the companys expansion plans to moves up from work for hire into production of its own full-length 3D animation feature films for a global audience.
The new facility will house multiple creative discussion rooms, training cum preview rooms and a massive state-of-the-art server room so the company may up its server capacity to 1,000 from the existing 200 servers. The facility includes an acting room to enable its animators to physically work on facial expressions and body language to help them bring alive their animation characters.
The facility also features recreation facilities like a gym, cyber café and fully equipped cafeteria for its animators. This facility is among the best in Asia and Europe and comparable to the top Hollywood digital studios in terms of infrastructure.
The deal is for a 52-episode TV series targeted at children 6-11 years, for a budget of $18 million. This enables Crest to venture into new geographies and diversify its client base, from the U.S. and Canadian markets to the European markets, especially for animated television serials.
In the past, Marathon has developed co-productions with partners from a wide variety of countries, including the U.S., Canada, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands.
