Charlie's Angels Seduces Worldwide Box Office

Around the world, moviegoers are being swept up in the sexy, high-kicking, MATRIX-like action of CHARLIE'S ANGELS. The television redux made its nod in the U.K. with an outstanding gross of US$6.74 million. In its sixth week in Britain, WHAT LIES BENEATH sunk to second, grossing $1.12 million, thus escalating its cume to $17.41 million. In fourth, BEDAZZLED possessed another $680,873, lifting its U.K. cume to $4.21 million. PITCH BLACK turned up in fifth, grossing $572,299, thereby pushing its U.K. cume to $3.64 million. LITTLE NICKY enflamed sixth place, with a gross of $505,062, raising its U.K. cume to $1.64 million. In eighth, DINOSAUR stomped home with another $415,722, advancing its U.K. cume to $19.44 million. Closing out the U.K. top ten, LITTLE VAMPIRE sucked up an additional $314,734, increasing its cume to $5.97 million. In Australia, the debut of CHARLIE'S ANGELS brought in $3.79 million in first place. WHAT LIES BENEATH surfaced in third, with a ticket take of $623,033, bringing its Down Under cume to $5.24 million. In fourth, THE CELL captured another $502,065, climbing its Australian cume to $1.57 million. SNATCH secured the fifth spot with a gross of $491,041, growing its Australian cume to $3.03 million. In ninth, SHAFT added $124,697 to its $3.53 million Australian cume. In France, CHARLIE'S ANGELS premiered in first with a strong gross of $3.7 million. After five weeks in France, SCARY MOVIE continues to do well in third, with a gross of $1.02 million, elevating its cume to $17.79 million. In fourth, SNATCH scored an additional $725,364, pushing its French cume to $1.74 million. SHAFT placed seventh, with a gross of $560,451, advancing its French cume to $3.06 million. In Italy, CHARLIE'S ANGELS also made its debut in first, with a gross of $1.54 million. SCARY MOVIE slipped to second, grossing $964,548, thus growing its cume to $4.97 million. In ninth, PITCH BLACK only collected $231,998 in its lackluster premiere. In Japan, CHARLIE'S ANGELS kept kicking in first, with a gross of $1.08 million, climbing its cume to $3.09 million. In second, the reissue of THE EXORCIST scared up $744,483 in its Japanese nod. SPACE COWBOYS lassoed $445,198 in fourth place, raising its Japanese cume to $1.97 million. In fifth, Toei's THE LAWS OF THE SUN converted moviegoers to the tune of $368,022, bringing its homeland cume to $2.8 million. In sixth, HOLLOW MAN materialized $278,955, increasing its Japanese cume to $4.3 million. In ninth, SHAFT added $226,360 to its $767,685 Japanese cume. In Hong Kong, fairing worse than in the rest of the planet, CHARLIE'S ANGELS' debut only placed second with a gross of $490,658. In sixth, the re-release of THE EXORCIST spun in $18,859, lifting its Hong Kong cume to $1.16 million. In Mexico, the premiere of CHARLIE'S ANGELS also placed second with a gross of only $347,635. THE CELL grabbed fourth place, grossing $288,410, thereby growing its Mexican cume to $2.2 million. In sixth, SCARY MOVIE grossed out audiences to the tune of $203,448, elevating its Mexican cume to $5.8 million. THE ADVENTURES OF ROCKY & BULLWINKLE arrived in seventh, with a gross of $199,595, pushing its Mexican cume to $1.26 million. At #7, URBAN LEGENDS: FINAL CUT slashed in $173,554, advancing its Mexican cume to $1.39 million. SHAFT finished ninth, with a gross of $158,629, increasing its Mexican cume to $877,940. In Sweden, ANGELS got squished by DINOSAUR, which held onto the top spot, with a gross of $605,907, escalating its cume to $1.74 million. CHARLIE'S ANGELS' premiere settled for second with a gross of $413,567. Slipping one to fourth, WHAT LIES BENEATH rung out $204,523 from movie watchers to raise its Swedish cume to $1.14 million. Also dropping a slot, SHAFT arrested $108,878 in fifth, climbing its Swedish cume to $451,470. However, SCARY MOVIE jumped up a slot to finished sixth, grossing $84,838, and thus raising its cume to $2.11 million. Finishing off the top ten, U-571 floated $60,964, growing its Swedish cume to $320,158.
