Calibre Hires Team To Produce Animated Children’s Series

Canadian visual effects and animation studio Calibre has hired a new team of talent to aid in the companys expansion into production of animated childrens series. Calibre is currently creating the CG portion of 26 half-hour episodes of the AAC KIDS/BBC UK co-production, ACE LIGHTNING AND THE CARNIVAL OF DOOM, a live-action/CG combination childrens series for broadcast on CBBC, the BBCs new childrens block in fall 2002. With numerous industry affiliations, Susan Ma (SNOWDENS CHRISTMAS, OUR HERO) comes to Calibre from Cuppa Coffee Animation and heads up the team for ACE LIGHTNING as production manager. Michael Carter (MONSTER BY MISTAKE), series studio manager, brings a wealth of technical and operational knowledge from past experience at Side Effects Software and Improv Technologies. First time animation director, Todd Jahnke (DINOSAUR, ANGELA ANACONDA) comes from an extensive production background as an animator and 3D compositor having worked for CORE Digital Pictures, Walt Disney and Warner Digital Studios. Robert D.M. Smith, animation director (MONSTER BY MISTAKE), brings over ten years of directing experience including a 2000 Silver Screen Award at the US International Film and Video Festival.
