Blur Taps Into Vintage Video Vibe for Nick’s Kids’ Choice Awards

Venice, California-based Blur Studio has created the vintage Atari video game-looking graphics for this year's Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards, the only awards show dedicated to kids' favorite movies, music, TV and sports. As part of the package, Blur produced a main title, headers, monitor fills, lower-thirds, as well as other elements. Blur artists used the video game theme of the show to create game-style graphics for each category, featuring the Nickelodeon Blimp as the central character. This is the third straight year that Blur Studio has produced the graphics package for the awards show.

"Using the '80s video game aesthetic, we had a blast creating quirky, little stories for each category header," said Blur Studio creative director Norn Kittiaksorn. "This design also afforded us ample opportunity to weave in elements supporting the Nickelodeon brand, such as the blimp and Nick's Slime."

The Blur Studio team included Kittiaksorn, Jennifer Miller and Tim Brown, creative directors; Norn Kittiaksorn and Pete Conlon, designers; Wonhee Lee, lead animator; and Pete Conlon, character animator. They used Abobe Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects and Animator Pro to create the project.
