Art Institute of California - SF Starts VFX & Motion Graphics Degree

The Art Institute of California - San Francisco start offering a bachelor's degree in Visual Effects & Motion Graphics, in summer 2007.

In the Visual Effects & Motion Graphics program at The Art Institute of California - San Francisco, students learn skills in a new specialization that focuses on communication arts for film, television and the Web. By combining graphic design, filmmaking, animation and sound, graduates of this program should be qualified for entry-level positions as digital image specialists who work in all areas of television and film production, for broadcast, cable, theatrical film, advertising, marketing and education.

Students will be taught skills in using digital compositing to create layered, textural landscapes, engaging both the mind and the emotions. Students will learn how to build a seamless presentation that is both visually arresting and commercially effective, through the integration of live-action footage, programming clips, graphic elements and sound. Courses in the program include the areas of Graphic Design, Animation, Digital Audio, Digital Video, Post-production, Broadcast Graphics, and Compositing.

The bachelor's program lasts 12 quarters (four academic years) and contains 192 credits.

According to the U.S. DEPARTMENT OF LABOR 2006-2007 OCCUPATIONAL OUTLOOK HANDBOOK (www.bls.gov/oco/cg/print/cgs038.htm): "Wage and salary employment in the motion picture and video industries is projected to grow 17% between 2004 and 2014, compared with 14% growth projected for wage and salary employment in all industries combined."
