Alê Abreu’s New Film ‘Perlimps’ Released Online for Industry Members

A follow-up to the Oscar-nominated director’s award-winning ‘Boy and the World,’ the new hand-drawn animated feature is now streaming free on The Animation Showcase for animation and motion picture industry members worldwide.

The Animation Showcase has released Brazilian Oscar-nominated director Alê Abreu’s animated feature Perlimps, which is now available free on the platform to animation and motion picture industry members worldwide.

A follow-up to Abreu’s Oscar-nominated and award-winning Boy and the World, the new film was released domestically in Brazil this past February, followed by an international theatrical release in France, Sweden, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, Portugal, Japan, and China. The film is coming to VOD in Spain for Christmas.

Perlimps follows the journey of Claé and Bruô, a pair of secret agents from rival kingdoms who must join forces despite their differences to search for the Perlimps, a mysterious creature who can ultimately bring peace in times of war.

The film features hand-drawn animation by Abreu and a small team who spent four years making the film in a mountain village in Brazil.

“The inspiration for this film was a desire to imagine childhood as a possible physical space or a territory – the Enchanted Forest– where there would be no barriers for friendship and where we would feel a connection with any living creature and also with nature,” shared Abreu. “I believe there is an unspeakable power within ourselves to get along with any other creatures. I decided, therefore, to use the entire color spectrum to convey feelings that otherwise I could not express in words. Perlimps gave me an opportunity to explore the color palette and test a more complex technique after the minimalism of The Boy and the World. “

"Just as his previous masterpiece left us spellbound, Alê Abreu's latest film is a tapestry of vibrant colors, an enchanting realm of imagination, with profound values that touch the heart,” added The Animation Showcase CEO Benoit Berthe Siward. “We are incredibly thrilled to release Perlimps to our community and members during the Thanksgiving holiday, aspiring for them to be inspired and moved by this enchanting cinematic journey."
