2D Animation walk cycles

Hi, Im new, my names Carly! Im studying computer animation at uni, specialising in 2d and traditional animation. Im doing my final year project, focusing on walk cycles. I have created some characters and created their walk cycles in Toonboom trying to convey personality.

Would be cool if i could get some feedback on these, as I have to say Ive got feedback for my final report!

Confident Doll character here

Fat Teddy bear character here

Voodoo puppet character here

Thanks :D

OK, I think the bear works best. There's some weight, he's hurt, he hobbles carefully. The confident doll walk I'd exaggerate more, make her really strut and show even more movement in the shoulders and especially the hip. (Which, of course, affects the legs.) The voodoo doll looks fun as a character but since there's no background I don't quite get that there's a forward motion supposed to be happening. Try reversing the body curves to show he's gathering momentum to thrust his entire body forward. The way he leans back before reaching the highest point of the jump suggests he's moving backward rather than forward. All in all it doesn't get very clear.

hi thank you very much for the feedback. I do see what ur saying about everything you mentioned. These are for a final project at university which is due in at the end of march, and I still have one more walk cycle to do and 4 other animation tests to complete. I wish i had the time to change the things you have mentioend but within the time scale I have to be stubborn and leave it there. However in my spare time after this is handed in I can make the effort to change them and make them better for my portfolio.

Thank u very much for ur helpful advice :D

Actually, the bear has some amusing elements, but I think you went a bit too far with the arm swinging. It looks kind of weird. As for the jumping doll, I like the design, but why does he swing back sort of when he jumps?

As for the first walk cycle, I think that one is the best, although, I don't like the color scheme at it. Not bad work though. I'm highly critical, but you're better than me at the moment. I've barely started animating. :P

Thanks for the feedback. I over animated the arms on purposeto help convey his heavy weight as i am going to be mainly marked on how i convey weight and personality.

The puppet that jumps, is jumping on the spot for this looped cycle. When it would be animated in an animation he would jump forward and move forward but this was hard to get across when its a looped cycle on the spot, so to get back to his starting position he looks as if hes going backwards. If that makes sense? But i do understand, it would probably be more helpful to have it moving across the screen to show his action properly, but this is how it will be submitted for my project.

Thanks for the feedback :)
