Another e-card ...

..........., but I can not increase pace of my country at the moment ...............

.....................HA!:D Touche!

.....pardon my rambling.

hmmm....I forgive u again, You can't seem to control yourself ....anyways ....I don't wanna mess with your biased opinions which are based on your little knowledge...as u say.... and poles apart from the real topic.

Peace...

Maryam on the pacing, just try cutting back on the loop, and shortening your frames for the action. Maybe cut it in the beginning scene to like four to five loops. Just a suggestion. It's one of those things we all have to learn and play with in the beginning.

ok:)

Thanks for the suggestions again phacker .... :) I have made some modifications in terms of pacing and you can view them by going again on http://flash.maryamnasim.com/peechoo.html .Or should I work more on it?
Also viewed your comments on Flash kit forums and replied em as well....ofcourse I am pretty new in the world of animation and I wanna learn ,learn and experiment, so any suggestions are more than appreciated.

Maryam :)

I think you're doing great for just starting out. Pacing is something we all deal with, just don't make the mistake a lot of flashers do by just upping the frame rate. There's a lot more to animation than just speeding up the frame rate. Not that that's what you have done. If your cards are for the web 12 fps is fine, you just need to learn how to judge the length of specific actions. Not that I am a pro in that respect by any means. I am still learning too. So good luck and happy flashing.

Just viewed your revision, much better. Hope you don't mind if I make another suggestion. How about angling your cactus shadows a little. With them pointing directly down like that it's a bit jarring, take them a little bit to the right or left, I think you'll like the look.

hehe your are quick but you know flash a great deal more than I do . :) I also cut a few frames ... and not increased the frame rate much but just upto 2 frames. :) Actually my problem is that I can not redo same work over and over again. I just get the mistakes point out and try not to repeat em in my next work....Sure i will try to learn about keeping the length of action compact as well....I got a book titled Animator's Survival Kit. Just got hold of it and have to even gone through it. Do you suggest some other book which is good for learning? Thanks again :) and Goodluck 2 u as well.

Maryam :)

Anyone else catch the unintentional way it could read with that specific angle and noise when her friend comes out of the treasure chest? *ahem*

It also kind of looks like s/he's digging the air at the front of the hole rather than into the hole itself, and then pulls the treasure out of thin air from that same spot.

There is a Christopher Hart book on comics/cartooning, including even how to write gags for strips, that I think would be really relevant here for making quick one-shot deal Flash cards. I'll see what I can do about finding out the exact name.

Pretty cute. The only suggestions I could make are that the pacing seems a little slow. And how about a little secondary action, like the curtains gently blowing in the wind, and maybe a snake moving acrossed the screen during the desert scene. If you don't like snakes how about a lizard or skorpion?

Good job.

Thanks Phacker

yeah, a secondary action will make it more dynamic and cover up the blank space as well, I never thought about that before.:)
I don't like lizards and scorpians as well hehe... So I'll think about something else. Thanks again :)... and one more thing that I love your work so much. I have seen that in daily sketch page but couldn't post a message there due to a problem with server. But that is simply awesome.

Maryam :)

Maryam,
The pacing is very slow. His sitting around at the beginning I get the impression that he is more bored than lonely. I think it could just start with the guy digging for treasure and then finding the friend and then the sentiment. More "time compression" as they say.
But you know , Maryam, maybe that's just my westerncentric way of looking at animation.
YOur froggy card is cute yet quirky.

I LOVE your fine art paintings.

:)

No Graphiteman
You are very right about the pacing. 1 minute and 46 seconds is not a good length of an e-card. I admit. :) But actually Peechoo is shown bored than lonely initially. That is why he makes a plan to go out and dig out a treasure to have some fun and change. But the tip of time compression will be kept in mind in my later work for sure. :)
Hehe what did u mean by westren centric? Do animation rules differ in places and regions?
Actually I take help from books as Animator's survival kit, or perston blair's book about cartoon animation, or i watch cartoons on cartoonnetwork. So my major inspirations are western as well....
Thanks for liking my paintings. :) That is my first passion.

Maryam :)

...... did u mean by westren centric? Do animation rules differ in places and regions?
............. :)

I honestly don't really know...I know that styles are unique around the world...Is that a result of bending the common animation principles or cultural influences of regional storytelling styles and idioms?...but as I was typing I realised that generally it is the subject of timing that enters the critique when it is someone on my end of the world looking at animation from another part.
SO I want to be careful to understand why something is unique before I say something is "wrong" based on my little animation dogma. 1 min and 46 seconds may be considered zippy in a slower-paced country of which I am ignorant. I'm also very self conscious that my dogma is very much Hollywood...and I'm a Canadian and our animation legacy largely did not follow Hollywood and we are richer for that.

.....pardon my rambling.

In some of those beginning scenes when all you can do is listen to the music...you get a chance to hear it loop and it personally was kind of grating. If you're doing the digging shot, why not make the sand and the dug sand a slightly different color. I could make out that the dug pile was getting larger by silhoette but it might be that much clearer with two shades of sand.

:)

Thanks for your comments and suggestions ScatteredLogical. :) And Graphiteman I surely understand what you are trying to say. I can make my animations run on a faster pace to meet with the international market, but I can not increase pace of my country at the moment  . It is ok.

Maryam :)
