SAG-AFTRA Ends Strike with Tentative New Three-Year Studio Contract

While details of the contract have not yet been disclosed, the strike officially ended at 12:01 am PT November 9, with guild members to ratify the agreement once the board signs off on the deal.

That’s a wrap! After a mere 118 days on strike, SAG-AFTRA has tentatively agreed with AMPTP on the terms of a new three-year contract. The strike has effectively ceased as of 12:01 am PT this morning, November 9, according to numerous industry reports.

"In a unanimous vote this afternoon, the SAG-AFTRA TV/Theatrical Committee approved a tentative agreement with the AMPTP bringing an end to the 118-day strike," the actors guild said in a late statement yesterday.

The latest round of negotiations began on October 24, culminating in a “best and final” deal from the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) over the weekend. The aggressive move led the union to deliberate and deliver a response to the terms, claiming to disagree with “several essential items,” especially AI. Further details on the final agreement have not been revealed.

The stakes between both parties were high, with the AMPTP bringing in Netflix’s Ted Sarandos, Disney’s Bob Iger, NBCUniversal’s Donna Langley and Warner Bros Discovery’s David Zaslav.

If the board signs off on the deal, which was voted in unanimously by the actor’s guild’s 17-member negotiating committee, members will soon be able to ratify the new agreement. With the strike ended, production should be able to restart quickly.

Crossing fingers for a quick resolution.
