Peacock Renews Seth MacFarlane’s ‘Ted’

Streamer orders a second season of the prequel series to the popular film franchise, set in 1993, that sees Ted, whose fame has passed, living with and being an awful influence on best friend John.

Peacock’s original prequel series Ted has been renewed for a second season.  The first season debuted January 11, breaking records as the streamer’s most-watched original title to date

The live-action / CGI hybrid series, set prior to the events in the Ted films, takes place in 1993, when Ted the bear’s (Seth MacFarlane) moment of fame has passed. He’s now living back home in Framingham, Massachusetts with his best friend, 16-year-old John Bennett (Max Burkholder), along with John’s parents, Matty and Susan (Scott Grimes and Alanna Ubach) and cousin Blaire (Giorgia Whigham). Ted may be a lousy influence on John, but at the end of the day, he’s a loyal pal who’s always willing to go out on a limb for friendship. Or something like that.

In addition to his duties as director, MacFarlane acts as writer, executive producer, and co-showrunner alongside Paul Corrigan and Brad Walsh. Erica Huggins, Alana Kleiman, Jason Clark, and Aimee Carlson also executive produce. The series is produced by UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, Fuzzy Door and MRC.

VFX studios on the series include Framestore, Method Studios, and Tippett Studio.

Watch and listen as MacFarlane, along with the tech folks at his company, Fuzzy Door Tech, share how their new production visualization system, ViewScreen, was used to film an animated lead character in real time alongside other actors.
