Benjamin Bear Marks 100th Territory

Amberwood Productions has announced that, following the most recent sales of THE SECRET WORLD OF BENJAMIN BEAR, including a DVD deal brokered by Porchlight Entertainment, the series has now been licensed in over 100 territories worldwide.

In making the announcement, Jonathan Wiseman, Vice President, Sales & Acquisitions at Amberwood said, "The series continues to generate meaningful sales worldwide and we are delighted that Benjamin is being so well-received."

The 39x30 (or 78x11) series was commissioned by Canada's Family Channel.

Nelvana Hooks Up with HP for Online Sales

Nelvana Ent. is expanding its digital sell-through network with the announcement of an agreement to sell its animated content through the online stores powered by HP Video Merchant Services.

Episodes from Nelvana's extensive kids content library, including BEYBLADE, BRACEFACE, BRIAN JACQUES' REDWALL and TALES FROM THE CRYPTKEEPER will be available as DVD-on-demand and/or via electronic sell-through in the U.S. through HP's network of retailers.

Davidson Promoted to SVP at CN

Cartoon Network has promoted Jennifer Davidson to senior VP of programming and scheduling, reports VARIETY. Davidson will be responsible for supervising all on-air content for CN and Boomerang, as well as on-air promotion for Adult Swim.

Formerly VP of marketing, ad trade, consumer-products trade and strategic operations for CN and Adult Swim, Davidson was part of the team that launched the 11:00 pm to 6:00 am block targeted at adults.

Studio B Walks Dogs and Kats to MIPCOM

Studio B Productions has signed a production order for 26 episodes of KID VS. KAT, a 26x22 comedy series for kids 6-11 about the exaggerated conflict between a demonically malevolent cat and the beleaguered ten-year-old boy who has become its unwitting nemesis. The property was developed internally at Studio B and originated from a short titled LOOK WHAT MY SISTER DRAGGED IN that screened at MIPCOM Jr. in 2006. The series is currently in production with YTV for a Fall 2008 launch.

HIT Ent. has announced new publishing partners and a first look at the upcoming television series for its recently acquired girl's property RAINBOW MAGIC. Panini has won the rights for a RAINBOW MAGIC Sticker Album, due for release in Autumn/Winter 2008, and Hachette has been awarded the rights for RAINBOW MAGIC Part Works. In addition, HIT will unveil a 30-second sizzle in 2D animation at Brand Licensing Show.

VGI Captures Rights to Groundbreaking Orsum Island

VGI Ent. has been appointed the exclusive international television distributor for the 26x30 HD motion-capture action-adventure series ADVENTURES ON ORSUM ISLAND. VGI will launch the series, produced by Pineapple Squared and aimed at children aged 7-12, at MIPCOM Jr. The first episode is due for delivery in October 2007.

Lil' Bush Elected to Second Term

Comedy Central has ordered a second season of the popular animated hit show LIL' BUSH, with the new season set to premiere in spring 2008 with ten new episodes.

"I'm thrilled the show has been picked up," said LIL' BUSH creator and exec producer Donick Cary. "I'm sorry it had to happen in the Minneapolis airport bathroom, but if that's the way Doug Herzog wants to run his company, it's cool with me."

Decode Steps Up Franny's Feet Licensing Campaign

Decode Ent. has inked a number of new licensing deals for its hit preschool property FRANNY'S FEET, including a deal with Allumination Filmworks for U.S. home entertainment and a further home entertainment agreement with Mediaway in Poland. Decode has also signed up a number of international licensing sub-agents through its representative, The Sharpe Company, including CPLG (Copyright Promotions) in France and Italy, Scandinavia's Alicom Licensing, IMC (International Merchandising Consultants) in Argentina and Korea's Asiana Licensing.

EM.Ent. Picks Up Zeke's Pad

EM.Entertainment GmbH has acquired the European distribution rights to the new 26x30 comedy series ZEKE'S PAD. Created by Liz Scully and co-produced by Canada's Bardel Entertainment Inc., together with Leaping Lizard Productions Inc. and Avrill Stark Entertainment PTY. Ltd. (Australia), the CGI animated show targeted at 8- to 12-year-olds is financially backed by the Canadian Television Fund, Telefilm Canada, COGECO Program Development Fund and British Columbia Film. Animated 10 Commandments to Challenge McLiteracy

A recent survey of 1,000 Americans revealed that respondents were more familiar with the ingredients of a McDonald's hamburger than they were with the 10 Commandments.

The survey, which was commissioned by the Ten Commandments Commission and conducted by Kelton Research, was undertaken in conjunction with the upcoming nationwide theatrical release of Promenade Pictures' CGI animated feature film THE TEN COMMANDMENTS on Oct. 19.

Fowler Leaves DIC for Licensing Shop

DIC Ent.'s longtime president of worldwide consumer products Nancy Fowler has departed the L.A.-based company to work full-time with The Licensing Shop, reports KIDSCREEN. She'll join founder (and husband) Steve Fowler at the startup brand management outfit, where she'll help to build the client base and increase the company's presence in the Canadian licensing industry. The firm is also looking for employees to fill creative and administrative roles.

Terry Clotiaux has been named exec producer of Digital Domain's feature film division, where he will oversee the films currently in production and report to Mark Miller, Digital Domain's President.

"Terry's background on the production side of the industry is substantial," said Miller, "having managed visual effects for some of the most successful blockbusters of the past decade. We're thrilled to have Terry on board."

Canal+ Brings The Imp to France

French broadcaster Canal+ has acquired all broadcast rights -- including pay TV, cable TV, Internet and mobile -- to distributor BRB Internacional's devilish animation series THE IMP. Canal+ will also act as the licensing agent in France.

Produced by Red Kite, Screen 21, and TVC, THE IMP (65x90) is a comedy produced in black-and-white HD3D targeted at young adults. Winner of the MIPCOM Jr. Licensing Challenge, THE IMP has been specifically designed to easily adapt to new multimedia formats, as well as to more traditional products such as toys, textile, stationery, etc.

Ace & Gary Return to SNL After Five Years

J.J. Sedelmaier and Robert Smigel's AMBIGUOUSLY GAY DUO helped launch SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE's 33rd season on September 29, ending a five-year hiatus. Even though the popular superhero team hosted the BEST OF TV FUNHOUSE special last year, they haven't appeared in their own cartoon since the 2002 season. The new episode, "First Served, First Come," was the 11th original installment and was a groundbreaker of sorts by featuring topical content, which is usually reserved for the FUN WITH REAL AUDIO series.
