NATPE News: CABLEready To Run 11th Annual NATPE Food Drive

CABLEreadys NATPE Food Project will mark its 11th year of community service this January 2004 by again encouraging exhibitors to donate leftover food from show booths and parties to the Community Food Bank of Clark County. This industry volunteer effort was launched in 1993 by Gary Lico, president/ceo of the international program distribution and development company, after he noticed the amount of food wasted each year at the annual convention.

ADV Films has acquired the exclusive home video and broadcast rights for the new FIST OF THE NORTH STAR trilogy, a modern animated series based on the world-renowned FIST OF THE NORTH STAR manga. Dragon Storm Debuts Jan. 24 on Sci Fi Channel

Travel back to medieval times, where alien dragons are transported inside an earth-bound meteor, in DRAGON STORM, the two-hour original feature airing on Sci Fi Channel on Jan. 24, 2004 at 9:00 pm. John Rhys-Davies (THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy) stars along with Maxwell Caulfield and Angel Boris. Stephen Furst (ANIMAL HOUSE) directs.

Two enemy kingdoms must unite and, following the lead of a reclusive hunter (Caulfield), fight off the beasts before they scorch the countryside bare. VFX were provided by UFO.

Cram Session For Teacher’s Pet

Toon Disney is giving viewers a chance to do their homework on DISNEYS TEACHERS PET before the feature film hits theaters on Jan. 16, 2004. The Disney cable outlet is presenting a special four-hour marathon on Jan. 11 from 8:00 to noon, featuring eight consecutive episodes of the critically acclaimed animated TV series, produced by Walt Disney Television Animation.

Witch Hunter Robin Joins Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim

Cartoon Network has added the gothic anime series, WITCH HUNTER ROBIN, to its Adult Swim lineup. Beginning Feb. 16, 2004, the show will air Monday-Thursday at midnight.

Set in present-day Japan where witches abuse their supernatural powers, a special team, lead by the flame conjurer Robin, hunts this new threat with a blend of technology, forensic science and supernatural powers. The series is directed by animé veteran Shukou Murase, who served as character designer for GUNDAM WING and ARGENTOSOMA.

Diablo Animation Studios Colors Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Dancing Diablo is collaborating with 4Kids for a third season of the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES television series since its premiere on FOX. It has styled and painted backgrounds for 26 episodes that premiered February 2003, is finishing the last of 26 episodes for the second season and is embarking on 13 more episodes.

Vancouver-based animation house Studio B will give 20 Canadian kids a chance to see their best jokes delivered by TELETOONs animated star Yakkity Yak. YAKKITY YAK follows the day-to-day trails and tribulations of Yakkity Yak, a teenage yak who dreams of becoming a stand-up comedian.

"Yakkity Yak has a can-do attitude, and a quirky view of the world," said Blair Peters, co-founder and partner, Studio B Productions. "We're looking for kids who have the same attitude and sense of humor."

Boomerang Offers Jonny Quest New Year Marathon

Boomerang, Cartoon Network's 24-hour commercial-free classic animation network, will greet the new year with a full-day marathon on New Year's Eve (Dec. 31, starting at 8:00 am) to spotlight THE ADVENTURES OF JONNY QUEST. Entitled, A Hadji New Year, the holiday stunt will feature 26 original half-hour episodes from the 1964 series, as well as two made-for-television feature films JONNY'S GOLDEN QUEST (1993) and JONNY QUEST VS. Nickelodeon Renews Five Series For 50 Hours

Nickelodeon has ordered 90+ new episodes of its series, THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS, ALL GROWN UP, MY LIFE AS A TEENAGE ROBOT, CHALKZONE and THE ADVENTURES OF JIMMY NEUTRON, BOY GENIUS, totaling more than 50 hours, according to Cyma Zarghami, evp/gm of Nickelodeon.

The order breaks down to 30 episodes of THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS and 20 episodes of THE ADVENTURES OF JIMMY NEUTRON, BOY GENIUS.

Kids' WB! Orders Second Season of MegaMan NT Warrior

Kids' WB! has ordered 26 more episodes of the cyber/adventure anime hit series MEGAMAN NT WARRIOR from ShoPro Entertainment for a second season that will kick off in Spring 2004.

"MEGAMAN NT WARRIOR proved to be the breakout hit we knew it would be," said John Hardman, svp of Kids' WB! Programming (www.KidsWB.com). It debuted on May 17, 2003 as the #2 overall program among boys 6-11, and ranked #1 against the broadcast competition in kids 2-11 and kids 6-11, #2 in boys 2-11, and among the top seven programs in tweens 9-14 and male tweens 9-14.

Astro Boy and New Kids' WB! Schedules Launch In January 2004

Legendary Japanese icon ASTRO BOY series debutes Jan. 17, 2004 on Kids' WB! (8:30 am ET/7:30 am PT), bringing 25 new anime adventures to kids in the U.S. The network also will launch that day 13 new episodes in the fourth season of returning hit STATIC SHOCK (11:30 am ET/10:30 am PT). In addition, STATIC SHOCK moves into the weekday lineup to air six days a week, beginning Jan. 5, in its new 3:30 p.m. ET timeslot.
