FOX Orders More Simpsons and King of the Hill

Fox Broadcasting Co. has ordered two additional seasons of THE SIMPSONS and one additional season of KING OF THE HILL. This gives viewers 19 seasons of THE SIMPSONS, through 2007-2008 while Mike Judges KING OF THE HILL is picked up for its 11th season.

Having debuted on Jan. 14, 1990, THE SIMPSONS reigns as the longest-running primetime series currently on television. Considered a cultural institution and popular icon, THE SIMPSONS will celebrate milestone 400 episodes in May 2007.

Scientologists Declare War on South Park — and Win

Reports out of Hollywood indicate that the Church of Scientology used its well-known celebrity muscle to pressure Comedy Central into pulling an upcoming episode of the cartoon SOUTH PARK that satirized the religion. According to DAILY VARIETY, the clash between Scientology and the SOUTH PARK creators is escalating in the wake of this latest move. The controversy first gained national attention earlier this week when Isaac Hayes, the voice of the popular character Chef, quit over an episode mocking Scientology and its most famous adherent, Tom Cruise.

4Kids, Microsoft Unveil Viva Piñata

On Wednesday, March 15, 2006, 4Kids Ent. unveiled the fruits of its partnership with Microsoft Game Studio at a New York City press event, an entertainment property called VIVA PIÑATA.

In the fall, PIÑATA will both as a debut as a 26-episode CGI series on 4Kids FOX TV Saturday morning block, and as an "immersive" Xbox 360 videogame. In 2007, after the property is an established entity, 4Kids plans to back up PIÑATA with an extensive licensing and merchandising campaign.

Toonami Broadens Appeal To Tweens, Adds Live-Action

In the U.K., Toonami has added live-action drama and comedy to its cartoon lineup to broaden the appeal of the channel.

Aimed at boys and girls 6 to 12 years old, Toonami is the first kids channel from Turner Broadcasting to include live-action series, which will be added to the channels popular cartoons including THE BATMAN, POKÉMON, JUSTICE LEAGUE, TEEN TITANS and STATIC SHOCK.

Nicktoons Festival Issues 2006 Call for Shorts

The third season of THE NICKTOONS NETWORK ANIMATION FESTIVAL for 2006 has issues a call for entries. Frederator Studios and the Nicktoons Network are again producing the festival. Shorts must be received by 5:00 pm (PST) on May 31, 2006.

The Festival runs six nights (five original screenings plus the best-of) beginning on the Nicktoons Network on August 26, 2006.

This year, the festival will expand with live screenings as well as distributing the shows through a variety of digital outlets.

Isaac Hayes Leaves South Park Over Religious Issues

Isaac Hayes, who voiced Chef since the shows inception, has left the cast of SOUTH PARK, saying he can no longer stomach its take on religion.

"There is a place in this world for satire, but there is a time when satire ends and intolerance and bigotry towards religious beliefs of others begins," the 63-year-old soul singer and outspoken Scientologist said. "Religious beliefs are sacred to people, and at all times should be respected and honored. As a civil rights activist of the past 40 years, I cannot support a show that disrespects those beliefs and practices."

Nick Sets Development Slate & Creates Inkubators Animation Lab

At its 2006-07 upfront presentation, Nickelodeon announced a slate that will include content developed from such platforms as feature films, videogames, broadband and international production, as well as a multi-million dollar development slate for non-linear productions. New projects have been commissioned from Steve Oedekerk, The Wayans Brothers, Alison Taylor, Jorge Gutierrez and Sandra Equihua Nick will also premiere 254 new episodes during the 2006-07 season, as well as new platforms for content including video podcasts.

SCI FI to Premiere Battlestar Galactica Season 3 in October

As SCI FI's hit series BATTLESTAR GALACTICA gears up for this Friday's 90-minute season 2 finale, the channel begins preparations for the October premiere of the show's eagerly anticipated third season. Production on season 3 begins in Vancouver in April.

Returning to its Friday night slot with a complete 20-episode order, season 3 of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA will contain vfx by Zoic Studios.

U.S. Born & Raised Anime Series Kappa Mikey Takes to Worldwide Waves

KAPPA MIKEY, the first global acquisition by MTV Networks, and the only anime series to be entirely created and produced in the U.S., is now airing on Nicktoons Network at 8:00 pm on Saturdays. It repeats on Nicktoons Networks' primetime programming block from 7:00 pm to midnight Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Beginning in May, KAPPA MIKEY will roll out across Nickelodeon's international channels, including Nick Asia, Nick UK, Nick Spain, Nick France and Nick Europe.

MY GYM PARTNER'S A MONKEY has swung onto Cartoon Network, featuring the animated antics of a 12-year-old boy accidentally attending an all-animal and aquatic creature middle school. The series, which had a sneak-peak on Feb. 20, 2006, airs Fridays at 9:00 pm on Cartoon Network.

Because of an administrative mix-up (a typo changing Lyon to Lion), Adam Lyon, a human boy, is accidentally transferred to the all-animal Charles Darwin Middle School, where the animal inhabitants of the local zoo and aquarium send their kids.

Studio B Prods. and TELETOON are partnering with Alison Snowden and David Fine (the Oscar-winning creators of BOB AND MARGARET) and Bejuba! Ent. for the animated series, RICKY SPROCKET SHOWBIZ BOY. Studio B Prods. will be co-producer and animation studio for the series with Snowden Fine. Japan Kicks Soccer Animation Into Arabic Airspace

The Japan Foundation decided to donate an Arabic-dubbed version of a popular Japanese soccer animated cartoon, CAPTAIN TSUBASA, to an Iraqi television station, reported KYODO NEWS.

Japanese Foreign Ministry officials said the program will be provided to the Iraq Media Network by the foundation, with the cooperation of the ministry and Animation International Middle East.

Combining live-action footage with 3-D CGI animation, MONSTER WARRIORS, a new YTV Canadian original Canadian series, premieres in its regular timeslot in Vortex, Saturday, March 18, 2006, at 10:30 am, repeating Wednesdays at 7:30 pm. Created and directed by Wilson Coneybeare of Coneybeare Stories, MONSTER WARRIORS features 26 half-hour episodes and is a YTV and Jetix Europe co-production.
