Animated Dreadful Children Coming to Fox

FOX has given the go-ahead on a pilot for a new primetime animated series titled TWO DREADFUL CHILDREN, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. The comedy was created by KITCHEN CONFIDENTIAL creator/exec producer Dave Hemingson.

The 20th Century Fox TV production centers on a redneck family that learn that their two unruly fraternal twins are geniuses. Hemingson will write and exec produce.

FOX hopes to add the series to its Sunday night animation block that includes THE SIMPSONS, FAMILY GUY and AMERICAN DAD.

Disney Channel Orders Third Season of Charlie And Lola

Disney Channel has ordered a third season of CHARLIE AND LOLA, the preschool series about a pair of supportive siblings, for its learning-focused Playhouse Disney programming block.

"The series does a wonderful job of showcasing preschool-age life lessons through the special bond siblings have," said Nancy Kanter, svp, original programming, Disney Channel. "We are delighted that Charlie and Lola's tender and humorous relationship will continue to warm the hearts of our young viewers and their parents and caregivers."

Icon Animation Signs Multi-Series Deal With KITZ TV

New Spanish childrens broadcaster KITZ TV, part of Teuves bouquet of thematic channels, has snapped up more than 100 hours of programming from Icon Animations catalogue of animation to spearhead its November launch. The deal includes POSTMAN PAT (52x15 or 4x30), HILLTOP HOSPITAL (52x11) and BOOHBAH (104x20), which are represented by Icon Animation for Spain.

In addition, Icon Animation recently acquired worldwide rights to OLYMPIG (52x2) from Maga Animation, which is also part of the package of sales to KITZ TV.

Dargaud Distribution Acquires Rights To Naruto

Dargaud Distribution has signed a major deal with Japanese broadcaster TV Tokyo to acquire television, video and merchandising rights to Naruto for French and Dutch-speaking speaking territories in Europe.

The 104x26 series is a co-production between TV Tokyo, leading Japanese animation studio Pierrot and Shueisha, publisher of the original manga. Dargaud Distributions parent company Group Dargaud already publishes the NARUTO comic books through its subsidiary Kana in France and it holds the #1 spot of all comic books sold.

SpongeBob Gets Best Day Ever & Bowie

In anticipation for the debut of the latest half-hour SPONGEBOB special titled BEST DAY EVER, Nickelodeon will air a 45-episode marathon of fans favorite episodes of the positive poriferan. Beginning on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2006, at 8:00 pm, the marathon will close with the debut of the special on Friday, Nov. 10, at 8:00 pm.

Voice of SpongeBob, Tom Kenny, as his Patchy the Pirate character, will host the marathon. To fan viewer interest, Nick will premiere the BEST DAY EVER music video on Oct. 26.

ZDF Brings Five Properties to MIPCOM

ZDF Enterprises GmbH is bringing five properties to MIPCOM 2006, where they can be found at booths 21.02 and 23.01.

The live-action series, H2O JUST ADD WATER (2x90 or 52x26) is an adventure-drama about how to stay "normal" when you're a part-time mermaid. Three 16-year-old girls find themselves exploring the eerie, jungle covered island eventually ending up trapped in an ancient cave system under a volcano.

Taffy Ent. EBS & France 5 Team For New Series Lamimila

Taffy Ent. has signed a co-production deal with Korean broadcaster EBS and France 5, for its new preschool series LAMIMILA, produced by MoonScoop and Characterplan.

This 65x7 series is aimed at a preschool audience, which is set for a fall 2007 delivery.

All-New Casper The Friendly Ghost Series Coming

MoonScoop and Classic Media announced that they will produce and distribute a brand new CASPER THE FRIENDLY GHOST animated series. Indias DQ Ent. has also come on board as co-production partner and the series will be developed with TF1 in France. Production on the new 52x11 series is set to commence in February 2007. Distribution of the new series will be shared between the co-production partners.

KOL To Bring Princess Natasha to ABC Australia

Following the recent PRINCESS NATASHA brand licensing deals, KOL, the children's web service from AOL, has secured its first international television deal. As part of the three-year deal with ABC Australia, 40 original episodes of PRINCESS NATASHA will air in Australia and New Zealand. Potential licensing opportunities for PRINCESS NATASHA will be explored in Australia and New Zealand as well through the newly signed licensing agent Gaffney.

Cinamour Ent. launches new animated property, THE DANCING PUMPKIN, at MIPCOM. At the event, the company will be located at booth 09.18.

THE DANCING PUMPKIN is a 60-minute animated holiday special. The night before Halloween, a house of children catch their jack-o-latern coming to life and dancing on their front porch. The dancing pumpkin takes them on a ride into his world of magic creatures. By working together, the children and the dancing pumpkin save Halloween from the evil plot of a scheming witch.

Bionic Woman Built Stronger for NBC

BATTLESTAR GALACTICA exec producer David Eick and writer Laeta Kalogridis have been tapped to bring THE BIONIC WOMAN back to NBC for a new generation, VARIETY reports. Eick and Kalogridis are set to exec produce the new version.

The original series, which starred Lindsay Wagner as the mechanically enhanced tennis pro turned superhero, started as a spinoff of THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN on ABC, but moved to NBC in 1977 for its third and final season.

Nick Jr. Orders More Max & Ruby

Nickelodeon Preschool Television has announced that they have picked up a 14-episode season of the 2D-animated preschool series MAX & RUBY. In addition, a new MAX & RUBY Easter special will premiere on Nick Jr. and NOGGIN in Spring 2007 to kick off the new season.

Based on the classic childrens book series by author and illustrator Rosemary Wells, MAX & RUBY follows the adventures of two bunny siblings. The show, a co-production from Nelvana/Corus Ent. in association with Chorion Silver Lining, airs weekdays on NOGGIN at 10:30 am (ET).

Cape Town’s Strika Ent. Debuts First Toon at MIPCOM Jr.

Cape Town-based Strika Ent. debuted its first Flash-animated series, SUPA STRIKAS, at this years MIPCOM Jr.

The animated series is based on Strikas most popular comic, SUPA STRIKAS. The comic follows the ups and downs of an African soccer team. The comic is a huge success with 1.5 million copies distributed every month to eight African countries and South America.

Strika Animation completed 13x1 Flash animated episodes that were broadcast in South Africa and in the rest of Africa.

DECODE Ent. has further expanded its presence in Latin America with a raft of sales to broadcasters in the region.

Mexican network Canal Once has snapped up PLANET SKETCH, a DECODE co-production with Aardman Animations and quirky short-form series NAUGHTY NAUGHTY PETS. In Venezuela, local distributor Amazonia has picked up the rights to FRANNYS FEET, THE SAVE-UMS! and GIRLSTUFF BOYSTUFF.

NBC Saves Heroes For Full Season

Due to the success of its first two episodes, HEROES has been picked up for a full season by NBC, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. The new drama averaged 13.5 million viewers and a 5.7 rating/14 share for adults 18-49. This put it as the #1 new series among that demographic.

Airing on Mondays at 9:00 pm, the show chronicles the lives of ordinary people around the world, who begin to discover that they have superhuman abilities.

TELETOON Gives Kids What They Want For Halloween

TELETOON has a spooky lineup planned for October in celebration of Halloween as well as Canadas Thanksgiving Day.

On Friday the 13th at 4:00 pm (ET/PT), TELETOON will air Tim Burtons BEETLEJUICE, staring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Alec Baldwin and Geena Davis. To celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, TELETOON will hold a movie marathon on Oct. 9. The schedule includes:

G4 Plays with ‘80s Videogame Toon

G4 has tapped writer/director/actor Adam de la Pena, creator/co-star of Comedy Central's I'M WITH BUSEY, to create an animated pilot, which follows 1980s videogame programmers, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

The as-yet-untitled project specifically chronicles two videogame programmers as their lives descend into chaos after a wild Texas businessman, who knows nothing about games, buys their company.

De la Pena's L.A.-based firm, Monkey Wrangler Prods. will produce the show.

Cartoon Network Completes Production on First Live-Action Movie Re-Animated

Cartoon Network announced that it has completed principal photography on its first-ever original live-action television movie, RE-ANIMATED, which will combine elements of live-action and animation. The project was announced in March at Cartoon Networks upfront presentation and is in post-production with a premiere date yet to be determined.

Smigel & Sandler Team on Animated Animals Series for Fox

Robert Smigel, creator of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog and SNLs TV FUNHOUSE, and Adam Sandler are teaming up to produce a new primetime animated series, ANIMALS, for Fox. Sandler's Happy Madison and 20th Century Fox TV, have received a presentation order, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER and confirmed by a Fox Broadcasting spokesperson.

ANIMALS centers on a group of human-like animals that are parodying human life in the suburbs, written by Smigel and Greg Cohen of KING OF THE HILL.
