Iranian Great Scientists Get Animated Series

The Saba Artistic and Cultural Institute has contracted Hoor Institute to produce an animated series titled, GREAT SCIENTISTS, which will highlight the accomplishments of great Iranian and Islamic scientists, reports JAM-E JAM.

The main characters of the 13x10 series are Omid and Iman, two boys who after coming upon different questions about various scientific events are transported into the past, where they learn about the lives and works of Iranian scientists.

Comedy Central & Amp'd Mobile Greenlight Mobile Original Lil' Bush

Comedy Central and Amp'd Mobile announced today (Dec. 4, 2006) that the original animated mobile series, LIL' BUSH: RESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES, will be the first original mobile program to migrate to television. The new series, which will be co-produced by comedy writer/producer Donick Cary, Comedy Central and Amp'd Mobile, will launch in 2007.

NICK Asia in the Market for Icon Animation's Lola & Virginia

Icon Animation attends this years Asia Television Forum with a number of sales already signed with broadcasters in the region, including a major sale to Nickelodeon Asia for LOLA & VIRGINIA for its channels in Brunei, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore, Palau, Mongolia, Thailand, Cambodia, Macao, South Pacific Islands and Taiwan. The deal follows recent agreements with Koreas EBS and EBC Taiwan for its healthy-eating series Vitaminix.

HBO Gets Vertigo Brings Preacher to TV

HBO is developing a one-hour series based on the popular 1990s Vertigo comic series, PREACHER, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Mark Steven Johnson (director of DAREDEVIL and GHOST RIDER) is penning the pilot, with Howard Deutch set to direct. Johnson and Deutch will also exec produce along side Michael De Luca, George Agusto, Chris Bender and JC Spink.

Cartoon Network Has Plenty of Programming Hand-Outs for the Holidays

Cartoon Network kicks off its Christmas programming on Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at 7:00 pm (ET, PT) with the premiere of BAH HUMDUCK: A LOONEY TUNES CHRISTMAS featuring classic LOONEY TUNES characters. Every Sunday-Thursday night in December, Cartoon Network will air Christmas-themed programming at 7:00 pm (ET, PT) and each Friday night will feature a holiday special. And to top it all off, there's a Christmas Party on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, which means nothing but holiday programming all day long.

Starz Slides to Holiday with Multiple Marathons

Starz Ent.'s cable channels are getting prepared for the holiday season with lineups of movie marathons.

Encore Action Christmas day schedule will feature a 24-hour marathon of the original ROBOCOP trilogy. * ROBOCOP at 12:00 am, 5:30 am, 11:00 am, 4:35 pm, 10:10 pm.* ROBOCOP 2 at 1:45 am, 7:15 am, 12:45 pm, 6:20 pm.* ROBOCOP 3 at 3:45 am, 9:15 am, 2:45 pm, 8:20 pm.

Starz Kids & Family has a marathon of holiday films airing from 10:00 am on Christmas Eve until 6:00 pm on Christmas day.

Jetix Europe Acquires Urban Vermin

Jetix Europe has acquired the European pay TV rights to the action-comedy URBAN VERMIN. DECODE Ent.'s CGI series will air on all Jetix Europe Channels starting autumn 2007.

Jetix Europe has also acquired TV distribution (with the exception of France), home video and consumer product rights to the series for Europe. Buena Vista Int'l Television is to service the distribution of television rights to URBAN VERMIN and will launch the 22x26 series at MIP-TV in April 2007.

Finale of Epic Anime Series Inuyasha Airs Dec. 1 on YTV

The popular Japanese anime series, INUYASHA, finishes off this Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at 9:00 pm, as YTV airs the series finale in Bionix, YTV's anime programming block. It promises to be a cliff-hanging end to the 167-episode series that combines ancient Japanese folklore, epic storylines and blazing action. Fans don't need to worry, as the series will continue to air every Friday night in repeats.

There's a new animated series on Adult Swim hoping to bust up crime in the city and bust out a few laughs in ASSY MCGEE, a sitcom from exec producers Carl Adams and Matt Harrigan, which debuted on Cartoon Network Nov. 26, 2006, at 11:30 pm. The show airs Sundays at 11:30 pm.

Pucca Holiday Episode Airs Dec. 2 on Jetix

Giggly girl Pucca premieres in a holiday-themed episode at 10:00 am, on Dec. 2, 2006, in Jetix, the comedy/action/adventure programming block on Toon Disney. It features three segments of Pucca and her continuing obsession with ninja boy Garu.

In "Northern Lights Out," Garu makes the dangerous trek to the Northern Lighthouse fraught with polar bears, shifting glaciers and snowstorms to start the lights again in order to save the village. A willing Pucca has stowed along for the journey.

The Very First Noel Animated Special Comes to DirecTV

Exclaim Ent.'s new animated Christmas special, THE VERY FIRST NOEL, will be available on DirecTV starting Friday, Nov. 24, 2006 and will run through Dec. 31. Featuring the voice of Andy Griffith (as Melchior), THE VERY FIRST NOEL will air daily on a regular basis on DirecTV Channel 103.

"The Christmas story provides a beautiful -- and powerful -- opportunity for bringing families together, so we think THE VERY FIRST NOEL will resonate with DirecTV's audience," said Exclaim co-founder Dennis DeShazer, who is also an exec producer of the special.

SCI FI & RHI Ent. Start Six-Hour Tin Man Miniseries

SCI FI Channel re-teams again with RHI Ent. (LEGEND OF EARTHSEA), on the six-hour TIN MAN (working title) miniseries to begin production in early 2007 for a December premiere on SCI FI. The wild sci-fi re-imagining of THE WIZARD OF OZ, written by Steven Long Mitchell and Craig Van Sickle (creators of THE PRETENDER), takes a decidedly sci-fi twist on the fantasy classic. To be shot in Vancouver, casting is currently underway.

Nicktoons Network will premier its first-ever sci-fi series, SKYLAND, on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, at 9:00 pm. The visually impressive series employs the latest in animation technology, using motion capture, CGI, 2D and keyframe animation to create cutting-edge television.

Officials from NEST Family Learning, a leading producer and distributor of family educational products, announced its partnership with Trinity Broadcasting Network. As part of the deal, 13 episodes from NEST's animated Bible series will begin airing on Saturday, Nov. 18, on Trinity Broadcasting Network. Zac Efron (HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL) guest stars on Disney Channel's new hit animated series, THE REPLACEMENTS, on Nov. 18, 2006, at 8:00 pm. Since its premiere, THE REPLACEMENTS has been the No. 1 animated series on Disney Channel for kids 6-11.

In order to get Johnny Hitswell's attention, Riley replaces the old pool lifeguard with Davey Hunkerhoff (voiced by Efron), a hunky 14-year-old lifeguard she flirts with to make Johnny jealous. Her plan backfires when Davey actually likes her back, and, discovering her plan, his feelings are so hurt he closes the pool.
