Battlestar Returns January 16

On Friday, January 16, 2009 at 10 p.m. ET/PT, Sci Fi's critically acclaimed drama series BATTLESTAR GALACTICA will return with the remaining episodes of its fourth and final season. The 10-week run will culminate with the series finale on March 20.

Picking up from last June's jarring cliffhanger -- the Colonial fleet and their new Cylon allies led by Admiral Adama and the Galactica crew discover Earth to find it a barren nuclear wasteland -- the finale season promises to be rife with drama, action and revelation.

Hot Wheels Vrooooming To TELETOON, Cartoon Network

Hot Wheels, Mattel's top vehicle property in the U.S., will be developed into a new animated television series. The new series, entitled HOT WHEELS: BATTLE FORCE 5, will feature CGI animation by Corus Ent's Nelvana and Nerd Corps Ent., and will premiere fall 2009 in Canada on TELETOON in the network's Sunday morning action block and on Cartoon Network in the U.S. as part of its Saturday morning lineup.

New Pink Panther & Pals Series To Air Worldwide On Cartoon Network Fall 2009

Turner Broadcasting and MGM Worldwide Television are producing a new 26 episode half-hour animated series for MGM's PINK PANTHER franchise to air on Cartoon Network channels worldwide in fall 2009.

The show is being produced jointly by MGM and Rubicon, Jordan's animation, edutainment and multimedia company. Production of the series is currently taking place in both Los Angeles and Amman, Jordan.

More Gross-Out Moments With Frankenstein's Cat

CBBC is acquiring a second season of cartoon comedy FRANKENSTEIN'S CAT.

Voiced by comedian Joe Pasquale, the slightly stinky but strangely lovable fall-apart Cat launched on CBBC in February 2008 and is a hit with viewers as well as the schedulers, featured in BROADCAST Magazine's Top Ten Children's Shows when it aired on BBC One in the summer. The new episodes are slated for delivery in late 2010.

FRANKENSTEIN'S CAT is a co-production between Mackinnon & Saunders and Kayenta Production, Paris, and is distributed by Toronto-based CCI Ent.

Mayanimation Sees The Light Of Day In New Series

Fresh TV Inc. and Blueprint Ent. have teamed up to co-produce a new live-action series with animated elements about the hilarious ups and challenging downs of being a teenager. IN MAYA'S OPINION centers on the life of an overly-imaginative teenage girl and is the first time Fresh TV and Blueprint have collaborated. The show is currently in development with Corus Ent.'s YTV.

Nickelodeon's Shocktober Treats Kids To Spooky New Thrills

This month, Nickelodeon, Nick Jr. and sister networks Nicktoons Network and NOGGIN are treating kids to spooky marathons and chill-filled new episodes of their favorite hit shows. Additionally, two of Nickelodeon's kids' websites, Nick.com and Nicktropolis, will feature new Halloween-themed online games to complement "Shocktober" programming.

WordGirl Series Spoofs Presidential Race On Nov. 4

Ten-year-old Becky Botsford -- the lead character in Scholastic Media's Emmy Award-winning hit show WORDGIRL, about a mild-mannered fifth-grader who's a secret superhero -- announced Thursday her intention to run for Class President against her rival Tobey McCallister III.

Her campaign culminates with a special Election Day episode, titled "A Vote for Becky" and airing nationally Nov. 4 on PBS and PBS KIDS GO! (check local listings).

Tiger's Apprentice Leaps To Cartoon Network

Cartoon Network announced its latest live-action/CGI movie based on the bestselling young adult Harper Collins book TIGER'S APPRENTICE by Lawrence Yep. Oscar-nominated screenwriter David Magee (FINDING NEVERLAND) adapted the award-winning book into a feature script optioned by Cartoon Network.

Jane Startz (TUCK EVERLASTING, INDIAN IN THE CUPBOARD) will exec produce the project. Set to premiere in 2010, TIGER'S APPRENTICE is now in pre-production with staffing and casting currently underway at Cartoon Network Studios in Burbank, California.

Shiny New Y-Wing Bombers Make Debut In Clone Wars

STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS puts a new shine on a very recognizable part of STAR WARS lore as the Y-wing bombers make their debut in "Shadow of Malevolence," a new episode of the animated series premiering at 9 p.m. Friday, October 10, on Cartoon Network.

In the second of a three-episode arc, "Destroy Malevolence" finds Anakin Skywalker, his Padawan Ahsoka Tano and Jedi Master Plo Koon utilizing long-range Y-wing bombers to lead a bold strike on General Grievous' warship, the Malevolence, and its destructive ion cannon.

DANCING WITH THE STARS' Lance Bass takes on a recurring guest role on Disney Channel's hit animated series, HANDY MANNY, starring Wilmer Valderrama.

Bass plays the klutzy, good natured "surfer dude," Elliot. In the episode premiering Friday, October 10 (9 a.m. ET/PT), Elliot's new rooster, Milton is crowing and waking up everyone in town. Manny must find a way to control Milton's crowing so that the neighbors are happy and Elliot can keep his pet.

Movie Previews Let Into Oscar Telecast

For the first time, the 81st Annual Academy Awards are allowing movie advertising, per VARIETY.

In a Tuesday night vote, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences board of governors decided to ease a 58-year ban on movie advertisements during the Oscar telecast. The rule was implemented when the Oscars first were aired on TV in 1950 to avoid any controversy over studio money influencing the voting outcome.

Six U.K. Houses Create Playhouse Disney Environmental Shorts

Playhouse Disney has recruited six U.K. production houses to develop a series of short animated films that help teach preschoolers about the environment in a fun and playful way. The interstitials form part of Playhouse Disney's "Playing for the Planet" campaign, which aims to help the next generation of preschoolers to grow up green. The project brought together production companies Bermuda Shorts, Artillery, Mr & Mrs Smith, Fold7, Studio AKA and Partinzan Lab.

Star Wars Most Watched Series In Cartoon Network History

The new Lucasfilm Animation series STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS on Cartoon Network scored as the most-watched series premiere in network history on Friday.

The one-hour new series premiere was the #1 program from 9-10 p.m. among all major kids networks in kids 6-11, kids 2-11, tweens 9-14, teens 12-7 and persons 2+, earning triple-digit increases compared to the same time period last year.

The weekly, CG-animated series also attracted the largest tweens 9-14 audience for any premiere telecast of an original series in Cartoon Network's 16-year history.

The Force Is With iTunes

Starting Saturday, each week's new episode of STAR WARS: THE CLONE WARS will be available at the iTunes Store (www.iTunes.com) for $1.99 an episode, or $39.99 for a season pass to all 22 episodes. Both "Ambush" and "Rising Malevolence," which air tonight at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Cartoon Network, will be available starting Saturday. This pattern will continue throughout the season, with each new episode available at the iTunes Store the day after its Cartoon Network premiere.

AMC Heads To Red Planet

Cable network AMC is developing a sci-fi series based on RED MARS, a 1992 novel by Kim Stanley Robinson, per THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

The project is being written and will be exec produced by Jonathan Hensleigh. Robinson's novel follows the first colony of humans on Mars. Michael Jaffe and Howard Braunstein of Jaffe Braunstein Ent. will produce alongside Vince Gerardis, Ralph Vicinanza and Eli Kirschner of Created By.

The CW network has greenlit a pilot based on Batman sidekick Robin's early days, called THE GREYSONS, per VARIETY. Clark Kent's pre-Superman days have been explored for the past eight years on SMALLVILLE, and the Robin-centered project could replace it eventually.

SMALLVILLE exec producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson and SUPERNATURAL exec producer McG, under his Wonderland Sound and Vision label are behind THE GRAYSONS. It is also the latest DC Comics franchise turned into a TV show by sibling Warner Bros. TV.
