USA Network to Show Land of the Lost Vignettes

USA Network will air a series of customized vignettes from Universal Pictures' upcoming LAND OF THE LOST, per COMINGSOON.net.

The spots will use footage from the film, and debut as part of the network's "Character Uncovered" branding initiative.

The series of 30 to 40 second vignettes will show star Will Ferrell as he takes viewers through Q&As and anecdotes about his LAND OF THE LOST character, discredited scientist Rick Marshall. The spots will show three of the film's themes: dinosaurs, the slow-moving reptiles known as Sleestak and paleontology.

Two Added to 24, Season Eight

Jennifer Westfeldt and John Boyd have joined the cast of 24, which is currently filming season eight, per THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

Westfeldt will play an ambitious journalist with ties to Arman Hashemi, a Middle East leader who comes to the U.S. on a peacekeeping mission. Anil Kapoor was cast recently to play Hashemi. Chris Diamantopoulos also was just hired as one of nine new major roles for the new season.

Boyd will be a regular on the FOX show, playing CTU systems analyst Jonah Schwartz.

CW Adds Vampire Show, CBS Picks up Medium

The CW added VAMPIRE DIARIES book adaptation to their fall schedule, among two other new scripted series, according to THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

VAMPIRE DIARIES, aimed to tap into the TWILIGHT phenomenon, is based on the Alloy Ent. series of young adult books about a girl in a love triangle with two vampire brothers.

CBS also announced their fall schedule on Wednesday, officially picking up NBC's discarded MEDIUM and adding NCIS: LOS ANGELES to their lineup, among others.

TNT to Fight Aliens with Steven Spielberg

Cable network TNT is developing a sci-fi drama from Steven Spielberg and DreamWorks Television, per TVGUIDE, about a group of freedom fighters who emerge six months after a worldwide alien invasion.

The network announced their 2009-2010 development slate on Wednesday.

Shows also include PROOF, from STAR TREK VOYAGER writers Kenneth Biller and Mike Sussman, about an eccentric neuroscientist who helps the government solve unusual mysteries.

Nickelodeon has ordered a pilot from DreamWorks Animation based on MONSTERS VS. ALIENS, reports THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER.

DreamWorks CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg announced the news at the 37th Annual J. P. Morgan Technology, Media and Telecom Conference in Boston.

DreamWorks and Nickelodeon announced last week their collaboration on KUNG FU PANDA: THE SERIES and Nick is currently airing THE PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR, another collaboration.

NBC Renews Chuck on a Budget

NBC has renewed sophomore action-comedy CHUCK, per VARIETY, but for a shortened 13-episode season with a smaller production budget.

The network and Warner Bros. TV struck the deal Sunday for the show, which has a relatively small, but passionate, audience of around 7 million viewers.

The renewal negotiations centered solely on whether the studio could cut costs, insiders said.
