U.S. Postal Service Unveils Star Wars Stamps

Luke Skywalker, Yoda, Darth Vader and R2-D2 are among the STAR WARS characters debuting on 15 new $.41 postage stamps unveiled today (March 28, 2007) at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Los Angeles, where the first STAR WARS movie opened nearly 30 years ago.

Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge Force Unveiled

AtomFilms, Spike TV and Lucasfilm have joined forces to launch the "Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge." The trio unveiled details today (March 14, 2007) at the Challenge's website www.starwars.atomfilms.com and issued an immediate call for submissions. Challenge award recipients will be unveiled online, on-air on Spike TV and at the Star Wars Celebration IV fan event in Los Angeles, May 24-28.

Star Wars: Where Science Meets Imagination Exhibit

Continuing the STAR WARS saga's year-long 30th-anniversary celebration, the phenomenally popular "STAR WARS: Where Science Meets Imagination" debuts Feb. 11, 2007, at the California Science Center, where it runs through April 29. Since its Oct. 2005 debut, the exhibition has attracted nearly 700,000 visitors at museums in Boston; Columbus, Ohio; and Portland.

Original Versions of Star Wars Trilogy Arrive on DVD

In response to overwhelming demand from STAR WARS fans, Lucasfilm Ltd. and 20th Century Fox Home Ent. have released individual two-disc DVD sets of STAR WARS: EPISODE IV A NEW HOPE, EPISODE V THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK and EPISODE VI RETURN OF THE JEDI ($29.98) on Sept. 12, 2006. Making these DVDs truly special, of course, is the inclusion, as special bonus material, of the original versions of the movies as seen in theaters in 1977, 1980 and 1983, respectively.

LucasArts and TT Games have shipped its hotly anticipated videogame, LEGO STAR WARS II: THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY, to retailers worldwide.

LEGO STAR WARS II combines the endless customization of LEGO play with a hilarious, tongue-in-cheek take on the epic story, characters and action from the classic STAR WARS: EPISODES IV, V and VI films. Ubisoft's Star Wars: Lethal Alliance to Launch in Dec.

Ubisoft announced today (Aug. 17, 2006), that STAR WARS: LETHAL ALLIANCE, an action-adventure game developed for the PSP and Nintendo DS, by Ubisofts Montreal and Casablanca Studios, respectively, will launch worldwide in December 2006. STAR WARS: Ubisoft is creating STAR WARS: LETHAL ALLIANCE under a long-term licensing partnership with LucasArts.

Star Wars: Clone Wars Debuts on iTunes

Cartoon Network's Emmy Award-winning animated series STAR WARS: CLONE WARS is now available for purchase and download on iTunes® Music Store (www.itunes.com).

Beginning today (May 25, 2006), the 20 chapters of STAR WARS: CLONE WARS Volume 1 are available on iTunes, with the action-packed STAR WARS: CLONE WARS Volume 2 following later in June. Each chapter, or episode, costs $1.99 while the full season of Volume 1 is available for $10.99 and can be viewed, after download, on a computer or on an iPod.

Empire Strikes Brick In Lego Star Wars II

LucasArts and TT Games announced their plans to release LEGO STAR WARS II: THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY [working title], the sequel to one of the best-selling videogames of 2005. Sith Snags 10 Saturn Nods

The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror films announced the nominations for the 32nd annual Saturn Awards. George Lucas' STAR WARS: EPISODE III REVENGE OF THE SITH led all nominees with 10 nominations.

BATMAN BEGINS placed second, with nine nominations, followed by THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE and HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE, which both received eight nominations.

Clone Wars, Vol. 2 Invades DVD

STAR WARS: CLONE WARS, VOL. 2, released earlier this month on DVD (Fox Home Ent., $19.98), picks up with the third season from Cartoon Network and bridges the gap between EPISODES II and III.

The Jedi are smarting from the battle with General Grievous. The Jedi Council reluctantly makes Anakin a Jedi Knight and he continues being drawn to the Dark Side of the Force. We learn many things about Grievous (how he gets his cough and obtains his collection of lightsabers) and other plot points that help set up and explain REVENGE OF THE SITH.

The Revenue Force is With Sith DVD and Battlefront II Game

In just one week of release, STAR WARS: EPISODE III REVENGE OF THE SITH on DVD and the STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT II videogame brought in sales of $210 million in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., Germany, Italy, Spain, Australia and Latin America, capping a record-breaking year for the STAR WARS franchise.

The two newest STAR WARS home entertainment releases debut in four more major international markets through Nov. 23.

KB Toys announced its annual Hot Toy List for holiday 2005, featuring a wide selection of the season's "must have" toys. Four animated or visual effects franchises BARBIE AND THE MAGIC PEGASUS, BATMAN, CINERELLA and FANTASTIC 4 made the lists in general. Three specific STAR WARS items also made the list as well as the audio BRATZ CD.

Star Wars TV Series Looking for Writers

Lucasfilm is seeking screenwriters for its STAR WARS TV series, reports IGN FILMFORCE. The live-action show will take place during the rise of the Empire between the REVENGE OF THE SITH and A NEW HOPE films.

Keeping tight security on the story, writers will work out of the Skywalker Ranch. Lucas and STAR WARS feature producer Rick McCallum will produce the series. Filming is set to begin in Australia in 2007.

Sith DVD, New Battlefront Game To Be Released Same Day

Making Nov. 1, 2005, STAR WARS day around the globe, Fox Home Ent. and LucasArts have announced that STAR WARS: EPISODE III REVENGE OF THE SITH will be released day-and-date with videogame STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT II. The SITH DVD will be released in most major markets either on the first or around it. The double-disc movie DVD will include a feature-length documentary on the making of the film.

Screen-Used Light Sabers & More to be Auctioned

Beverly Hills auctioneer Profiles in History will auction treasures from the archive of filmmaker Gary Kurtz on July 29, 2005, at 11:00 am PDT. Kurtz was the producer of STAR WARS and STAR WARS: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK, as well as AMERICAN GRAFFITI, RETURN TO OZ and DARK CRYSTAL. He received two Academy Award nominations for Best Picture (STAR WARS & AMERICAN GRAFFITI). Working closely with George Lucas from 1973-1981 as vp of Lucasfilm, Kurtz was instrumental in developing the STAR WARS trilogy and bringing the first two blockbuster films to the silver screen.

Star Wars Sound Designer Ben Burtt Headed to Pixar

Ben Burtt, sound designer for all the STAR WARS and INDIANA JONES films, is headed to Pixar Animation Studios, reports THE POST-STANDARD. Burtt said that he worked at Lucasfilm on a project-to-project basis and no new projects were in the works. Pixar gave him "the most attractive" of his offers, so he took it. One of the perks he cited was Pixar's Bay Area location, which has been his home for years.
