Berg Talks Dune

THE KINGDOM’s director Peter Berg tells SCI FI WIRE that he is developing a new feature version of Frank Herbert's sci-fi novel DUNE. Berg says that his take on the book is much different than David Lynch presented in his 1984 film version or the SyFy’s 2000 miniseries. In Berg’s mind, the story is an epic adventure and less about the feuds between houses.

Xara 3D6 Available Via Download or by Retail

Launched Wednesday is a new version of Xara3D6. Xara has launched a stripped down version -- download-only -- just the program itself and associated resources, such as sample images, textures and fonts. Users can now buy this version for only US$29 (+ VAT in EU).

The boxed retail version remains but the price has been adjusted to US$49 (+ VAT in EU) slightly lower than it was before. Both operate on Windows XP/Vista.

GenArts Survey Results Are In

GenArts recently conducted two surveys to quantify productivity gains of its Avid customers who have upgraded from version 1 to version 2 and version 3. The first survey compared an artist's time spent applying transitions with footage before and after upgrading to Sapphire version 3, while the second compared an artist's time spent applying an effect to a complex Avid title before and after upgrading from Sapphire version 1. Beyond productivity gains, the survey also highlights the dramatic return on investment delivered by the new version of Sapphire.

Judge Dredd to Be Remade

DARKHORIZONS is reporting that DNA Films, Rebellion and 2000 AD will bring a new version of JUDGE DREDD to movie audiences.

No other details were available, but 2000AD CEO Jason Kingsley confirmed they were working with DNA Films on the project.

Sylvester Stallone starred as the Judge in a poorly-reviewed and received version in 1995. The new film will go into production next year.
