Technicolor's Paprikaas Animation Awarded Kung Fu Panda Series

Technicolor (Euronext Paris 18453; NYSE: TCH) today announced that Nickelodeon, part of MTV Networks, a division of Viacom Inc. (NYSE: KDE), has awarded Technicolor's Bangalore-based animation studio, Paprikaas, the Kung Fu Panda TV series, which will be produced as an animated series for the worldwide broadcast market, initially comprising 26 episodes.

Tim Sarnoff Joins Technicolor

Thomson has appointed Tim Sarnoff as president of its Technicolor Digital Productions division. This new division, within the Technicolor Business Group, will focus on the company's expertise in animation, games and visual effects. Its mission will be to develop Technicolor's animation operations in Bangalore and VFX operations in Beijing, as well as under the MPC brand in London, Los Angeles and Vancouver, into centers of excellence and growth.

Thomson Secures Hollywood Studio Support for Digital Cinema Rollout

Christie Digital Systems now has a competitor, as Thomsons Services division has reached digital cinema usage agreements with DreamWorks, Sony Pictures, Universal Pictures, and Warner Bros. to accelerate the deployment of digital cinema systems in North America. In addition, the company is in late stage negotiations with Twentieth Century Fox, New Line Cinema, and The Weinstein Co., and expects these studios to be part of the initial deployment.

I.B. Damned!: What Glorious Technicolor

As part of its "Toons Gone Wild!" series, the Two Boots Pioneer Theatre will be screening vintage "golden age" cartoons that are rarely shown anywhere. Many have not been shown on TV since the 1950s and are unlikely to be ever be available on DVD. A special ToonTalk will follow immediately after each screening. At 6:00 pm, "I.B. Damned!: What Glorious Technicolor" will screen Technicolor cartoons made in the no-longer-used "I.B.Tech" (imbibition) dye transfer process. Tickets are $9.00 and $6.50 members.

ASIFA-Hollywood Presents Hollywood Cartoons In Technicolor!

ASIFA-Hollywood is presenting a screening of Hollywood Cartoons in Technicolor, hosted by animation historian Jerry Beck. The show will feature rare 16 mm prints of classic cartoons, one from each Hollywood cartoon studio during the golden age of animation. Each cartoon is complete, uncut in vivid 3-strip IB Technicolor. You cannot see this on TV, video or anywhere else! The event will begin at 7:30 pm. The entry fee will be US$2 for members and $5 for non-members. Seating is limited.
