Toy Story Franchise Going 3-D

The Walt Disney Studios is planning to debut new Disney Digital 3-D versions of TOY STORY on Oct. 2, 2009, and TOY STORY 2 on Feb. 12, 2010, as a lead-in to the 3-D launch of TOY STORY 3 on June 18, 2010. Veteran Pixar filmmaker Lee Unkrich (co-director of TOY STORY 2) is helming TOY STORY 3.

9 Story Secures Robin Squires for DTV

Toronto-based 9 Story Ent. has acquired the rights to Joan Clark's celebrated book THE HAND OF ROBIN SQUIRES to develop and produce into a direct-to-video animated feature. 9 Story is working with children's industry veteran Peter Moss to adapt the story of a young boy's elusive quest to unravel a century's worth of secrets and ultimately find a hidden pirate treasure.

9 Story Adds Two New Execs

Canadian-based production and animation studio 9 Story Ent. heads into 2008 with the addition of two new senior executives. Jill Fraser has been named VP, Business Affairs and Krista Barron, Manager Production Finance. The two will report directly to Steve Jarosz, VP and COO, 9 Story Ent.

As VP, Business Affairs, Fraser will be responsible for legal and business affairs matters for all areas of 9 Story's operations. Barron will be responsible for administration and certifications relating to tax credits, film agency and other domestic funding on all 9 Story productions.

New Musical Brings Toy Story to Life

Disney Cruise Line will transform TOY STORY into a stage spectacular aboard the Disney Wonder cruise ship when TOY STORY -- THE MUSICAL makes its debut at the Walt Disney Theatre this spring. This is the first time the popular Disney-Pixar classic has been adapted for the stage.

Following the storyline of the original film, TOY STORY -- THE MUSICAL will give the audience a toy's-eye view of life in Andy's room, exploring the true meaning of friendship as Buzz Lightyear and Woody transform from jealous adversaries to best friends with an unbreakable bond.

Skyland Wins Two Gemini Awards

Canadian-based production and distribution studio 9 Story Ent. has garnered two 2007 Gemini Awards for its action-adventure series SKYLAND. SKYLAND received the awards, which recognize the best in Canadian English-language television, for Best Animated Program or Series and Best Original Score, Animated Program or Series, won by composer Paul Inston. The Academy of Canadian Cinema announced the winners for the Lifestyle, Children's and Youth Awards on Tuesday, Oct. 16.

While on MTV, director Wes Anderson announced that Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman would be lending their voices to his stop-motion animated feature THE FANTASTIC MR. FOX. The RUSHMORE pair will be joining George Clooney (Mr. Fox) and Cate Blanchett. Based on Roald Dahl's classic children's tale, the story follows a quick-witted fox who sets out to protect his family from three vicious, but stupid, farmers.

Futz! a Wrap for 9 Story Ent.

9 Story Ent. has announced that production has been completed on the first 26 episodes of its new animated comedy series FUTZ! The Teletoon Original Production is scheduled to premiere as part of the network's new fall programming lineup in September.

Targeting nine- to14-year-olds, the wacky comedy is a retro nonverbal cartoon based on the misadventures of its title character, who is ready for anything, prepared for nothing and always able to severely mess things up in just 180 seconds -- the length of each episode.

Ridley To Pen Lucas' Red Tails

George Lucas has tapped John Ridley (THREE KINGS, UNDERCOVER BROTHER) to write his pet project RED TAILS, the story of the Tuskegee Airmen, reports VARIETY. The script will be based on a story by Lucas, who is funding development via Lucasfilm and exec producing. Industrial Light & Magic will handle the aerial battles.

The story chronicles the young African-American pilots who broke the color barrier to become the first black U.S. fighter pilots. The title of the project refers to the Tuskegee Airmen's planes' tails, which were painted red.

Latest Zune Arts Video, Dogfight, Airs on Adult Swim

Strategic design and advertising agency 72andSunny released the second of several new artist collaborations to be featured on zune-arts.net and aired beginning this month during Adult Swim on Cartoon Network this summer. This latest video, DOGFIGHT, tells the tale of two enemy fighter pilots who spark a friendship via impromptu aerial artistry and fireworks that result from their surprising and spectacular mid-air explosions. The film was animated by Los Angeles-based Fulltank and set to the track "Special Thing" by Portland-based rock duo Viva Voce.

Disneyland's classic Submarine Voyage attraction resurfaced today in Tomorrowland (June 11, 2007) as the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. The 12-minute ride features 15 minutes of all-new animation from Pixar Animation Studios with FINDING NEMO favorites Nemo, Marlin, Dory, Crush and others.
