295 films across animation, live-action, and documentary were selected from over 5,500 entries; in-theatre screenings of 49 curated programs run June 22-28.
The event, running September 10-19, is accepting short film projects using puppet animation, object animation and/or pixilation; deadline for submissions is July 2.
At Annecy 2021, first time screenings, masterclasses, and keynotes include a look back with ‘Mémoire d’une minute,’ a shorts collection for Annecy award-winning directors; a masterclass presented by Walt Disney and Kugali animation studios; and a keynote by Terrence Malick about VR ‘Evolver – Prologue.’
The event kicked off May 10 with a full slate of online and onsite events including meetings, conferences, workshops, and presentations; the Best Shorts finalists will be available for home viewing through May 23 via the Retiana Latina and Filmin platforms.
With the pandemic still to be reckoned with, event will go virtual again this year, with an extended run set for September 22 – October 3; the best of the usual ‘in person’ activities will be featured and available from the safety and comfort of home; submissions still being accepted through May 31.
Nine projects selected out of 75 submissions include a diverse group of films with varied themes; festival runs from June 14-19.
In addition to the competition and screenings, the virtual event will explore women and animation, freedom of speech, social criticism, and satire; the conference will run online from May 20-23.
