Sony Pictures Imageworks is launching an open source development program, it was announced today by Imageworks’ chief technology officer, Rob Bredow.
Five technologies will be released initially: * OSL, a programmable shading language for rendering* Field3d, a voxel data storage library* Maya Reticule, a Maya Plug-in for camera masking* Scala Migration, a database migration tool* Pystring, python-like string handling in C++
The Walt Disney Family Museum is set to open this fall in San Francisco, reports the trades. Located at the Presidio, home of Lucasfilm's Industrial Light and Magic, the new three building museum will feature 10 interactive galleries and a 113-seat theater. On display will be rare photos, memorabilia and 4 1/2 hours of film footage. Walt Disney's voice will serve as a virtual tour guide. The door will open on Oct. 1.
Toon Radio has plans to turn over a portion of its broadcast schedule over to its listeners.
Toon Radio is setting aside Friday evenings for its listeners to use as they please. This new block will be called Open Source, in reference to the software community of the same name. Open Source will allow listeners and bloggers alike to have their own audio clips and podcast recordings play on Toon Radio's audio stream.
