Nick Mobile on V CAST Kicks Off

Nickelodeon, the top entertainment brand for kids, and Verizon Wireless, the leading wireless service provider in the U.S., jointly announced the launch of Nick Mobile today, (May 5, 2005) to bring Nickelodeon video content to Verizon Wireless' V CAST wireless phones. Music videos from DORA THE EXPLORER, BLUE'S CLUES, THE BACKYARDIGANS and LAZYTOWN will be the first available content on Nick Mobile, with Nickelodeon TV programming scheduled to roll out this summer.

Fire Breather Blows Into Paramount & Nick Movies

Paramount and Nick Movies are negotiating to buy the film rights to FIRE BREATHER, a fantasy graphic novel by Phil Hester and Andy Kuhn, according to trades. Published by Image Comics, the comic revolves around high schooler Duncan Rosenblatt, who's half-human and half-dragon. Hes always at odds with his divorced parents a sweet-natured soccer mom and a 300-foot monster.

Williams Goes Krazees for Paramount & Nick

Paramount Pictures and Nick Movies have hired Robin Williams to star in a screen adaptation of the preschool book THE KRAZEES, reports HOLLYWOOD REPORTER. Sam Swope wrote and Eric Brace illustrated the book, which follows a young girl who encounters on polka-dotted krazees that emerge on gloomy days. Derek Guiley and David Schneiderman (CHASING LIBERTY) have the task of adapting the screenplay, which will include a new character for Williams to play.

Nick Jr. Steps Out With New Backyardigans Series

Nick Jr. goes CGI with a new show, THE BACKYARDIGANS, that will introduce preschoolers to five-high spirited friends who take epic, musical adventures by transforming their yards into fantastical places like ancient Egypt or the high seas, which premieres at 11:00 am on Oct. 11, 2004. Each episode's soundtrack features a unique music/dance genre with four original songs, along with real choreographed movements recreated in animation, raging from swing to reggae to James Brown-style funk.

Cosby’s Primetime Animated Gift to Fathers

Cosby & Grammer Get Animated for Nick at Night/TV Land Originals

New animated series from Bill Cosby and Kelsey Grammer are part of Nick at Nite and TV Lands first-ever slate of original shows and specials. The development slate, which also includes new programming from Henry Winkler, Peter Bonerz, David Steinberg and several others, could be seen on both networks as early as 2004. The originals will serve as a complement to Nick at Nite and TV Land's successful acquired programming.

Teri Weiss has been promoted from exec in charge of production to vp of Nick Jr., responsible for overseeing Nick Jr. signature shows, including DORA THE EXPLORER and BLUE'S CLUES plus several pilots in development.

Nick Strips Fairly OddParents

Nickelodeon has begun stripping THE FAIRLY ODDPARENTS, starting August 4, 2003, Monday-Friday at 8:00 pm, moving its number one show, SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS to 7:30 pm, it was reported by DAILY VARIETY and confirmed by a Nick spokesperson.

FAIRLY ODDPARENTS has been airing only on Friday night and Saturday ayem, falling in behind SPONGEBOB in the No. 2 position all year. Industry observers suggest the move out of the anchor slot of the weekday sked could finally push the adult-favored SPONGEBOB out of first place. The move also shifts RUGRATS to the 7:00 pm slot.

When the Nickheads.net fansite (which is not connected with Nickelodeon) posted news that Klasky Csupo was only getting an order from Nick for eight episodes of the RUGRATS spinoff, ALL GROWN UP, and thereby was laying off lots of employees, AWN asked reps at Nickelodeon and Klasky Csupo to respond.

Nick Line-Up for Licensing Show

Nickelodeon comes to Licensing Show June 10-13, 2003 in New York City at the Javits Center to kick off licensing programs for its latest hit show FAIRLY ODDPARENTS, the upcoming SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS MOVIE and RUGRATS spin-off, ALL GROWN UP. Nickelodeon will also expand its current roster with movie licensing plans for A SERIES OF UNFORTUNATE EVENTS as well as the introduction of TAK AND THE POWER OF JUJU and EVERGIRL, its first off-channel properties. Vee Pee Cartoons Goes Mad for Nick Jr.

Vee Pee Cartoons, the broadcast design and animation division of Virtual Persuasion, recently completed production on MAD CAPS, a series of 60-second educational interstitials for Nick Jr. The spots will be featured as part of Nick Jrs. fall 2003 line-up and introduce the 3D animated characters Rip, Rap and Rippity Doo. The lively animated shorts employ a hip-hop attitude to teach pre-school kids about colors, shapes and sounds. The interstitials feature the voices of Eastern Conference Records rap artists Mr. E-On, Tame One and The Dutchess performing to hip-hop rhymes written by Nick producers Greg Alkalay and Lisa Versaci along with writer Samantha Berger.

The characters were based on designs by Nickelodeons Manny Galan. "Originally Mannys designs called for 2D characters," according to Vee Pees director of animation, John Siciliano. "But once we did a test of them in 3D, everybody preferred them in that format. We modeled all the characters with Newteks LightWave 7.5. Then we combined the character animation with 2D graphic elements and text in Adobe After Effects to create some really eye-catching spots. Nick at Nite Picks Up Fatherhood As Network's First Original Animated Series

Nick at Nite will produce its first ever original animated series, FATHERHOOD. David Alan Grier (LIFE WITH BONNIE, DAG) has been signed to star in the series, which is based on Bill Cosby's bestselling book, FATHERHOOD. Cosby will executive produce the primetime series for Nick at Nite along with Charles Kipps (LITTLE BILL, COSBY MYSTERIES, LAW & ORDER) and David Brokaw (LITTLE BILL). Sal Maniaci, VP, development & production, TV Land and Nick at Nite, is overseeing the project, which is scheduled to premiere December 2003. "We are thrilled and honored to join forces with America's most beloved and creative funnyman for the network's first original project," said Jones. "We've been looking for an original property much like THE COSBY SHOW, that truly fits the Nick at Nite family viewing brand," according to by Larry W. Jones, EVP/GM, TV Land and Nick at Nite. "What better way to launch our first original series than with an original Cosby gem." Vee Pee Cartoons Helps Nick Showcase New Characters In Spots

Vee Pee Cartoons, the broadcast design and animation division of Virtual Persuasion located in Fairfield, Connecticut recently completed a series of "Quickie Nickies" interstitials for Nickelodeon. THE GREGORY AND PECK shorts feature a dim-witted bear, Gregory, and a wise-cracking rooster, Peck, airing in April as part of Nickelodeons Nick Toons line-up. These spots allow Nick to experiment with new and original characters, according to animation director John Siciliano.

CG Ted to Star In New Nick Movie

SHREK producer John Williams and his company Vanguard Films will produce a live-action theatrical adaptation of children's book TED for Nickelodeon Movies, starring a CG-animated version of the lead character. Ted is the mischievous imaginary friend of a young boy in the book of the same name by best-selling author/illustrator Tony DiTerlizzi. Rob Moreland (HAPPILY EVER AFTER) is adapting TED for Vanguard and Greenlight Media. TED will be rendered entirely in CG amongst a live-action cast and environment.

Rogue Creative Rises From The Ashes Of MTV Commercials

MTV alum's Nick Litwinko and Peter Reichert have formed Rogue Creative, a commercial production company with interests in creative content development and documentaries. Rogue maintains offices in New York, Los Angeles and Seattle with a roster that includes many former MTV Animation creatives. Executive producer Nick Litwinko, based in New York, helped launch MTV Commercials in 1999, after almost a decade of work on various MTV series including BEAVIS AND BUTTHEAD, AEON FLUX and CARTOON SUSHI.

Nick & Jive Records Sign Singing Pact

Nickelodeon and Jive Records have inked a deal to distribute records under the new Nick Records label. Under the multiyear deal, Jive and Nick Records will team for marketing, promotion and distribution of joint venture releases worldwide. The first album due out under the pact is the soundtrack to the Paramount/Nickelodeon Movies feature JIMMY NEUTRON: BOY GENIUS, scheduled to hit theaters on November 6. Jive's 13-year-old pop sensation Aaron Carter will provide several tracks for the project.

Nickelodeon has licensed the international distribution rights to the Nick series, THE FAIRLY ODD PARENTS to Nelvana. In addition, Nick has renewed Nelvana-produced shows, MAGGIE AND THE FEROCIOUS BEAST and PELSWICK. In addition, Nickelodeon has agreed to co-produce a minimum of one new series with Nelvana. THE FAIRLY ODD PARENTS follows Timmy Turner and his two bungling fairy godparents.
