Fox & Apple Bite on Rental Deal

The net is abuzz with news that Fox and Apple are close to announcing a new deal that will see Fox content available for rent on iTunes. THE FINANCIAL TIMES broke the story, stating a formal announcement will be coming at Macworld on Jan. 14. Details are still sketchy, but users would rent films and TV shows for a limited time for a reduced price. Additionally, Fox will use Apple's digital rights management software on its DVDs to make it easier for customers to put Fox titles on their computers and iPods.

MTVN Shows Coming to iTunes in the U.K.

MTV Networks Int'l (MTVNI), owned by Viacom Inc., and Apple announced an agreement to distribute full-length TV shows from MTV, Nickelodeon and Paramount Comedy channels for purchase and download from the iTunes Store in the U.K. The agreement is the first between the two companies outside the U.S.

Animated Spider-Man Swings Onto iTunes

A new deal between Sony Pictures TV and Apple's iTunes will bring TV episodes online, including THE ANIMATED SPIDER-MAN. The deal is the first between rivals Sony and Apple. Sony previously announced to launch a competitor to iTunes in the U.K. Other series to go to iTunes as part of the deal include CHARLIE'S ANGELS, NEWSRADIO, and STARSKY & HUTCH.

Paramount Puts Pics on iTunes

Paramount Pictures announced that it will begin selling digital downloads of its hit movies on the iTunes Store. Starting this month, movie fans will be able to choose from more than 100 movies from Paramount Pictures, Paramount Classics, MTV Films and Nickelodeon Movies. Titles from Paramount Vantage will be available later in the year.

Comedy Central to Premiere Drawn Together Episode on iTunes Before Broadcast

Comedy Central has launched on iTunes, with 56 half-hour episodes featuring the network's leading franchises the Emmy Award-winning SOUTH PARK, DRAWN TOGETHER and COMEDY CENTRAL STAND-UP. A download of a new episode of hit-animated reality series, DRAWN TOGETHER, will be available on Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, three days in advance of the Feb. 1, network debut making this an "iTunes Episode Premiere."

Nick, MTV & Comedy Central Programs Available on iTunes

MTV Networks and Apple announced Jan. 26, 2006, that hit television programming from MTV, MTV2, COMEDY CENTRAL, Nickelodeon and The N is now available for purchase and download on the iTunes Music Store (www.itunes.com). The new content features favorites, such as PUNK'D, SOUTH PARK, DORA THE EXPLORER, SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS and LAGUNA BEACH.

Disney Animated Shorts & TV Series Coming to iTunes

The Walt Disney Co. will now offer additional programming from ESPN and ABC Sports, ABC Ent. and Touchstone Television, ABC Family, ABC News, Buena Vista Television, Disney Channel and SOAPnet, as well as content produced by Walt Disney Feature Animation on the iTunes Music Store (www.itunes.com).

Beginning later this month, Disney Channel will provide episodes of the animated series KIM POSSIBLE and THE PROUD FAMILY. In addition, the libraries of ABC Ent. and Touchstone Television will sell the popular 1970's Saturday morning SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK vignettes.
