Italy’s premier international event boasts a roster of award-winning guests, including ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’ co-director Joaquim Dos Santos, BAFTA Award winner and Oscar nominee Henry Selick, and Netflix’s ‘Nimona’ directors Nick Bruno and Troy Quane; event runs October 15-20.

The 2009 stopmo classic scored big at the box office, grossing close to $5M during its recent 2-day Fathom Events theatrical release; new showings added for August 28 and 29 – tickets now on sale. 

The stop-motion legend, Lucasfilm executive creative director, and senior ILM animation supervisor, respectively, will head to Turin to deliver a suite of in-person talks and workshops; Italy’s premier international event on Computer Graphics, Interactive Techniques, Digital Cinema, 2D/3D Animation, VR and AR, Gaming, and VFX runs October 15-20.

VFX supervisor Paul Santagada’s team used CG to build out and assemble the film’s physical Rust Bank Cemetery and Underworld sets, integrating plate elements, performance passes, secondary bits, and a bunch of fluid, smoke, breaths, and bubbles - delivering 275-300 shots across around 12 sequences on the stop-motion comedy horror film, now streaming on Netflix.

Animation supervisors Malcolm Lamont and Jeff Riley discuss climbing the career ladder that led them to stop-motion feature animation; the duo also chats about how director Henry Selick’s new animated movie came together.
