ADV Films has acquired the exclusive home video and broadcast rights for the new FIST OF THE NORTH STAR trilogy, a modern animated series based on the world-renowned FIST OF THE NORTH STAR manga. Anime Network is planning a broadcast run of the new trilogy to support the upcoming home video release.
In last months excerpt, Gene Deitchs life was turned around when animation producer William Snyder made Gene a deal that sent him to Prague.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the seven films being considered for Achievement in Sound Editing for the 76th Academy Awards. Included on the list is FINDING NEMO, which features the work of Oscar-winning sound designer Gary Rydstrom (TERMINATOR 2: JUDGMENT DAY) of Skywalker Sound. Rydstrom has worked on all the previous Disney/Pixar features. An animated feature has never won in this category.

Global Entertainment Media Group, LLC (GEM Group), has acquired the film library of BMG, the worldwide music division of Bertelsmann AG. This includes all residual rights to the BMG film library that has been in existence since 1995, including free television, DVD, home video and other ancillary rights to the films.

The Library of Congress has added 22 new films to the National Film Registry, which includes two animated shorts. The Looney Tunes classic ONE FROGGY NIGHT joins other Warner classics WHATS OPERA, DOC?, PORKY IN WACKYLAND and DUCK AMUCK. In addition, Pixars 1988 short TIN TOY also made the list. The registry, established by Congress in the 1988 National Film Preservation Act, now contains 375 films. The 4th edition of Animadrid was organized with the purpose of fostering the film and audiovisual arts by promoting independent animation productions and providing an assembly point for artists and audiences in the international community. This year's event will pay tribute to legendary stop-motion master Ray Harryhausen. Animadrid has two competitive sections: a short films selection and the Iberoamerican Competition for television TV series pilot. In the short film category, independent films less than 60 minutes in length and created using any animation technique are eligible for entry.
Metasin Productions is organizing the first Metacal Experiment. Artists can enter short films and videos; audio and silent films; animated and live- action pieces, all genres. The experiment will include live music, short films, standup comedy, visual art and dance. It is also looking for additional paintings, sculptures, drawings, individuals or groups wishing to perform original dance, comics, drummers/percussionists, bass players and Lighting designers. FINDING NEMO (Disney/Pixar) fittingly leads the pack of 11 eligible Oscar contenders for Best Animated Feature announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Nov. 19, 2003.

Penny Singleton, the voice of Jane Jetson and the actress who brought the popular comic strip character Blondie to life in films, died Nov. 12, 2003 at Sherman Oaks Hospital, two weeks after suffering a stroke, at the age of 95.
Singleton was best known on camera for her role as the wife to bumbling husband, Dagwood Bumstead (played by Arthur Lake) in THE BLONDIE series, which had 28 films from 1938 to 1950. The films were based on the cartoon strip, created by Chic Young in 1930, about the misadventures of a small town family.
Spanish international sales firm Lumina Films has gained the overseas sales rights outside Spain to the Spanish 3D feature film MIDSUMMER DREAM, reported VARIETY. Dygra Films, producers of hit film THE LIVING FOREST, created the film. The $8 million film is a co-production with Portugal's Appia Filmes and is based on Shakespeares A MIDSUMMER NIGHTS DREAM.
