Toy Story 3-D to Screen at Venice

The 66th Venice Film Festival will debut the 3-D versions of TOY STORY and TOY STORY 2 in conjunction with the lifetime achievement award its will bestow on Pixar's founder John Lasseter and the company's directors. The festival runs from Sept. 2-12.

The fest organizers said for "first time in the history of the Venice Film Festival, the award will honor not only the achievement of a single filmmaker but also the contribution of the directors of a visionary studio."

Watchman Makes Friends with Facebook

THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER is breaking the news that Warner Bros. and Facebook have inked a deal sync friends on the social networking site with Warner's Blu-ray releases, beginning with WATCHMEN: DIRECTOR'S CUT. Disc owners will utilize BD-Live to simultaneously view the film with their friends and make comments.

Directors Leave Jonah Hex Adaptation

VARIETY reports that Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor have left the planned JONAH HEX adaption of the DC Comics comicbook. Josh Brolin (W., MILK) is expected to star as the partly disfigured gunslinger and bounty hunter.

The duo, who wrote the script, departed as directors over "creative differences." Warner Bros. is looking to quickly fill the director's chair in order to keep Brolin and their intended spring start.

Veterans Carry AMPAS Board Elections

Eight incumbents have been reelected to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Board of Governors, along with six other filmmakers who will return to the board after a time away.

The sole first-time governor elected is Annette Bening, representing the Actors Branch. All will serve three-year terms.

Returning to the board after a hiatus are Jeffrey Kurland, Art Directors; Martha Coolidge, Directors; Arthur Hamilton, Music; Don Hall, Sound; and Phil Robinson, Writers.

Oscar Shorts Screening in NYC

New Yorkers will have the opportunity to see all 10 of this year's Oscar-nominated films in the Animated and Live Action Short Film categories prior to the 80th Academy Awards presentation, on Saturday, February 16, at noon at the Directors Guild Theater in New York City.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' fifth annual "Shorts!" program will be hosted by Robert Osborne, Hollywood Reporter columnist, host of Turner Classic Movies and official biographer of the Academy Awards.

The 2007 Animated Short Film nominees are:
