V12 + Panopoly Pictures design = Full Circle

V12 and Panopoly Pictures are merging their respective design and production departments to form Full Circle, a the new company that will provide live-action production, branding motion graphic design and animation to clients in the feature film, commercial and broadcast arenas. Leading the joint venture are V12 founder David Hwang and Panopoly Pictures co-founder Kathryn Peaslee.

With the kick off of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Convention in Chicago (June 10-12), Discreet announced that leading architectural firms are using its design visualization offerings for a competitive advantage in winning new commissions and securing approval for high-profile design concepts, including Perkins & Will, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP, Kohn Pederson Fox, Ellerbe Becket and Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum.

Zinney Joins Click 3x

Zack Kinney, a motion graphics designer and animator, has joined Click 3x. Kinney will undertake broadcast design and commercial projects, as well as work for other media. In his first project for Click 3x, he designed a graphic opener for the recent 2004 ONE SHOW INTERACTIVE awards show. In an earlier freelance assignment for Click 3x, he served as art director on a promo for MTVs PIMP MY RIDE.

Fusion 2004 - A Monster Show

Fusion 2004 is Nanyang Polytechnic's annual diploma show for digital animation, games design, digital film and video, interactive media design and industrial design. It is a 3-day exhibition organized by the School of Design to showcase creative talents from the class of 2004.

Venue: NYP Auditorium, Campus Center Date: 20-22 May 2004 Time: 10:00 am -8:00 pm

This year's theme is A MONSTER SHOW inspired shamelessly by B-Grade monster flicks. So expect loads of campy fun and visual galore. We will have a film and animation screening nite on Friday evening.

BAFTA Hands Out Craft Awards

BAFTA announced the winners of its Craft Awards on May 16, 2004 at a ceremony hosted by Alistair McGowan at the Dorchester. The TV documentary RESTORATION won the BAFTA for Graphic Design while Framestore took home the Visual Effects BAFTA for its work on SEA MONSTERS A WALKING WITH DINOSAURS TRILOGY.

Art Institute of CA-SF Announces New Scholarships For Game Pros

The Art Institute of California San Francisco (http://www.aicasf.aii.edu) has announced a new scholarship program designed for videogame industry professionals interested in furthering their education. The school is offering special scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to individuals who are or have worked in the game industry. Scholarships must be applied for tuition in the school's Game Art & Design (Bachelor of Science) or Visual & Game Programming (Bachelor of Science) degree programs.

Radium Spins Off New Design Division

Leading digital effects studio Radium has launched a new design division. In addition to offering full CGI, editorial and visual effects services, Radium now has a complete design division with eight designers. The talent includes Tuesday McGowan, Sebastian Harms, Christopher Wargin, Melinda Tidwell, Lisa Overton, Lisa Berghout, Stacy Nimmo and Christopher Kirk. All of these artists are well versed in a variety of mediums such as broadcast, film, television and print design.

Art Institute SF Hosts Summer Studio Workshops for High School Students

The Art Institute of California - San Francisco is hosting special Summer Studio Workshops, June 22-25, giving high school seniors the opportunity to explore the creative arts, meet fellow young creative people and learn about new design technologies. The hands-on workshops will be held for students interested in learning more about videogame development, computer animation, graphic design, fashion design, interior design and Web design. Students can choose one of five different workshops.

Academy Presents Production Design Seminar

Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is presenting a four-part seminar examining the art of production design. The seminar will run every Wednesday at 7:00 pm for four weeks in the Academy's Linwood Dunn Theater at the Pickford Center for Motion Picture Study in Hollywood. Each session of "Production Design: Concept to Construction" will offer a detailed look at the production design process from the perspective of motion picture production designers themselves.

Distinguished painter/animator/teacher Glenn Vilppu will give a lecture on his work and human figure drawing workshops. Lecture is open to all SCAD students/faculty/staff and alumni.
