Click 3X Enlists Motion Designer/VFX Compositor J.D. Yepes

New York-based design and effects studio Click 3X recently expanded their roster, signing artist J.D. Yepes, a specialist in editing, motion design and vfx compositing. The hire is the latest in a series of efforts to widen their production capabilities to offer a full suite of visual solutions for commercials, feature films, television, music videos and broadcast clients.

5D - The Future of Immersive Design

The Art Directors Guild (ADG) and the University Art Museum (UAM) of California State University, Long Beach will host an innovative two-day conference called 5D - The Future of Immersive Design. It will be the first-ever conference dealing with the convergence of visual storytelling and design technology across all narrative media and will take place October 4-5. 5D will explore the new role of design in these five dimensions, thus the name 5D: Film, TV, Animation, Interactive, and Environment. The venue for the conference will be the Carpenter Performing Arts Center at CSU, Long Beach.

The first extension release for Autodesk 3ds Max 2009 and Autodesk 3ds Max Design 2009 software is now available to Autodesk Subscription customers. The Creativity Extension includes new particle effects capabilities, designed to help artists increase the realism of their work. The extension will also allow artists, designers, and visualization specialists incorporate audio and sound effects into their animated scenes, and quickly optimize highly detailed 3D models from digital sculpting applications, such as Autodesk Mudbox software.

Luxo's L-1 Task Light Inspires Design For Wall-E

Pixar's anticipated hit movie, WALL-E, whose main character is the last robot on Earth, was inspired by Luxo's iconic L-1 task light.

In a recent interview, Wall-E director Andrew Stanton, who also directed Pixar's Academy-Award winning FINDING NEMO, noted that the combination of the L-1 and a pair of binoculars served as an inspiration for WALL-E. "Luxo was always an inspiration because of all the life it gave an inanimate object," Stanton said.

Design studios like bpg and Cuppa Coffee Studios were multiple award winners at this weekend's Broadcast Design Association/Promax Awards in New York.

The BDA Awards are regarded as the highest accolade for creative professionals in the broadcast design industry.

Cuppa Coffee has won more than 50 times over the past 10 years, including two Golds this year for Art Direction & Design: Topical Campaign for the Spike Scream Awards and the Art Direction & Design: Special Events Promo for the ESPN ESPY Awards.
