TELETOON Set To Become Home Of Marvel In Canada

TELETOON Canada Inc. and Marvel Animation have entered into a multi-year output deal that sees TELETOON become the home of Marvel Animation in Canada. Beginning in spring 2009, a broad spectrum of Marvel animated series will air on TELETOON networks in both English and French. The agreement sees Marvel deliver a minimum of 182 episodes of first-run animation for broadcast and includes rights for additional platforms including broadband, video-on-demand, mobile and other online opportunities.

EA Scrabble On Facebook Launches

Last week EA and Hasbro announced SCRABBLE on the Facebook Platform was in an invite-only Beta... today SCRABBLE launches into an open Beta available to all Facebook users in the U.S. and Canada. It is the first EA Hasbro-licensed property to go live on a social networking site, with many more Hasbro game properties in development and slated to launch on social networking sites later this year.

Studio B Inks Deal With Jetix For Kid vs. Cat

Studio B Productions, a production subsidiary for DHX Media, has closed a U.S. broadcast deal for KID VS. KAT. Jetix has acquired all (52x11 or 26x22) episodes of the series. Created by Rob Boutilier, the series is an original production, in association YTV Canada and Jetix Europe.

Fifi and the Flowertots Takes Root in Canada

Leading preschool entertainment producer HIT Ent., on behalf of Chapman Ent., has made arrangements with major Canadian television, toy and apparel companies to bring the international hit series FIFI AND THE FLOWERTOTS to Canada for the first time.

Starting Feb. 25th, FIFI will air on Canada's Treehouse Monday through Friday and will be featured prominently on Treehouse's website (treehousetv.com) with games and activities.

International Screenwriters Unite in Support of WGA

Writers from around the world -- including Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, English and French Canada, United Kingdom, Mexico and France -- will take part in an International Day of Solidarity on November 28 in support of their striking WGA counterparts. Franz Kafka's A Country Doctor, Persepolis Win Ottawa

The Ottawa International Animation Festival comes to an end with the closing ceremonies held Sunday, Sept. 23, at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. Organizers announced the winners of the official competition during the ceremonies. The festival attracted 1,500 industry pass holders from across Canada and around the world with a total attendance of more than 23,000. Although the final numbers are not officially in, there are strong indications that this year's Festival reached the highest attendance to date.

HIT to Rep Aardman Licensing & DVDs in U.S. & Canada

Aardman Animations has hired HIT Ent. to handle licensing and DVD sales in the U.S. and Canada. With immediate effect, HIT will manage the rights of three properties, WALLACE & GROMIT, SHAUN THE SHEEP and AARDMAN CLASSICS.

Stephen Moore, COO, Aardman Animations said, "We are delighted at the prospect of partnering with HIT in the U.S. and Canada on these, our two most precious properties --their talent in managing top international brands will give SHAUN and WALLACE & GROMIT a great springboard for tremendous success."

Ben 10 to Get Expanded Canadian Marketing

Cartoon Network Enterprises has enlisted Canadian agent Segal Licensing to beef up its BEN 10 marketing activities in Canada, reports KIDSCREEN. Segal will pursue licensing and promotional partnerships in a variety of categories to increase the brand's visibility and availability in the region.

BEN 10 products have been available in Canada since the spring, when Bandai America launched its line. Over the spring and summer, the initial offerings were augmented by D3 Publishers of America (interactive), SG Footwear, Pressman (games and puzzles) and Bell Sports.

Ryan Larkin Resurfaces For MTV IDs

Celebrated Canadian animator Ryan Larkin has created his first original material in almost 30 years exclusively for MTV. Nine months after MTV in Canada launched with a series of branding IDs inspired by Larkin's work, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker has created three, original, animated IDs for MTV. As a Christmas present to the elusive genius, Larkin's five-second bumpers will be the only channel IDs to air on MTV on Dec. 25-26, 2006.

Rainmaker Receives BC's Top Exporter Award in New Media & Ent.

Rainmaker received the top award in the New Media & Ent. category at the 2006 BC Export Awards ceremony held Nov. 10 at the annual Awards Gala held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

Rainmaker was recognized among 24 finalists who exemplify the value of B.C.'s export economy. The award, accepted by Rainmaker ceo Warren Franklin, was presented by Blair Reekie, president, The Eyes Multimedia Prods.

McLaren Works On Tour in Support of New DVD Set

As part of its year-long celebration of 65 years of producing award-winning animation films, the National Film Board of Canada is releasing the box set of the complete works of Norman McLaren, the founder of its famed NFB animation studio and a world-renowned animator in his own right. In conjunction with the DVD release, there will also be retrospectives of McLarens films in major U.S., Canadian and European cities.

The National Film Board of Canada invites filmmakers between the ages of 16 and 30 from throughout Canada to showcase their talent and creativity in the Web animation competition IN VIVO: A WINDOW ON DIVERSITY. Five finalists will benefit from the NFB's unique animation expertise to complete their short films, which will then be shown at the Canada Pavilion at Expo 2005 in Aichi, Japan. The grand winner will receive a week for two at Expo 2005. The competition is an initiative of the National Film Board of Canada with the support of Canadian Heritage.
