The Oscar-winning VFX studio, using Maya and Houdini, delivered 500 VFX shots, including the film’s finale filled with crowds of digi-doubles on the deck, the hull, and in the water around the futuristic Wakandan stealth ship.
The studio delivered almost 400 visual effects shots, with its London facility producing a single 10-minute sequence and Montreal facility creating a range of sequences, including full water simulations, integrating CG ships, digi-doubles and a helicopter crashing into the ocean.
No real surprises, at least in the animation-related categories, with ‘Avatar: The Way of Water,’ ‘Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio,’ ‘Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,’ ‘The Sea Beast,’ and ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ among the best animated feature and best visual effects nominees for this year’s 95th Oscars, coming March 12.
While no specific reason for the official policy change was revealed, China’s ban is over, for the time being, allowing both ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ and ‘Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania’ to premiere in February now they’ve been approved by the China Film Administration.
‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ takes home two awards as well as two Special Achievement honors; winners will be celebrated at a March 1 ceremony.

The vaguely worded Marvel announcement states the sequel will ‘continue to explore the incomparable world of Wakanda, and all of the rich and varied characters introduced in the first film.’
