WorldFest Houston 2004

Founded in August 1961, WorldFest is the third oldest competitive International film festival in North America. It gave first honors and awards to Spielberg, George Lucas, Randall Kleiser, Ridley Scott, Ang Lee, The Coen Brothers, Robert Rodriguez and many more. It screens 50-60 new features and around 100 new shorts, in 35mm and digital video DLP projection in a large commercial theater complex. The event provides great networking as more than 450 international filmmakers attend, and the general audience exceeds 25,000 at the 10-day event.

Nickelodeon and TV Asahi Animated Shows Win Peabodys

Nickelodeons DORA THE EXPLORER is one of the winners of the 63rd Annual Peabody Awards to be awarded by the University of Georgias Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication on May 17, 2004. The 29 award winners for excellence in electronic media, chosen from more than 1,100 entries, also includes recognition for Japans TV Asahi, MOTHER FLEW AWAY AS A KITE, an arresting animated recounting of the last days of WWII.

Undersea Animation Wipes Out Competition In Nick Kids’ Choice Awards

Children showed they treasure undersea animation, voting for FINDING NEMO and SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS as their Favorite Movie and Favorite Cartoon, respectively, in the 17th annual Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards awarded April 3, 2004 during a live broadcast on the cablenet. Kids voted online and by phone for the winners.

SpongeBob took additional honors as Favorite Video Game for SPONGEBOB SQUAREPANTS: BATTLE FOR BIKINI BOTTOM.

CharacterShop To 'Open' 2004 British Animation Awards

The CharacterShop has been commissioned to produce the opening film for the 2004 British Animation Awards, which will take place at the Shaw Theatre in London on March 19, 2004. The film focuses on the antics of rock-band "Slaughterhouse" made up of sheep, with a lead singer who resembles rock legend and reality TV star Ozzy Osbourne. All aspects have been created in-house at the CharacterShop, with original music composed by Richard Chester.

Duck Dodgers Leads Daytime Emmy Nominations

DUCK DODGERS led animated shows with three Daytime Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Special Class Animated Program in the 31st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards competition announced today (March 4, 2004) on the NBS TODAY SHOW. ARTHUR, STATIC SHOCK DISNEYS KIM POSSIBLE and CLIFFORDS PUPPY DAYS received two nods each from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Academy's New York Celebration of the Academy Awards

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' official New York Oscar Night celebration of the 76th Academy Awards will be held at Le Cirque. All New York-based Academy members will be invited to attend the black-tie event, now in its fifth year at Le Cirque. The celebration, presented in association with restaurateur Sirio Maccioni of Le Cirque and organized by Arthur Manson and Arlene Dahl, chair and vice chair, respectively, of the Academy's New York Events Committee, will begin at 6:30 pm.

ASIFA-Hollywood is currently accepting entries for the 31st Annual Annie Awards. Deadline to receive entries is Friday, October 3, 2003. Every year, ASIFA-Hollywood, the Los Angeles area-based branch of the International Animated Film Society, honors the best in film, television, game and Internet animation with the Annie Awards. The awards ceremony will take place at the Alex Theater in Glendale, California on Saturday, February 7, 2004.

Dinotopia: The Series Wins Bronze Medal at New York festivals

An episode of the fantasy series DINOTOPIA has won a Bronze World Medal in the 'Action/Adventure' category at the International Film & Video Awards, part of the New York festivals. The awards were presented on January 30, 2004 along with the Television Programming and Promotions Awards. Framestore CFC created the digital VFX for the episode.

Scientific and Technical Achievement Honors and Oscars Announced

The first Oscars awards of the season have been decided as the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced recipients of this years scientific and technical achievement awards to be presented at a gala black tie dinner on the evening of Feb. 14, 2004, at the Ritz Carlton Huntington Hotel in Pasadena, California.

Digidesign, a leading manufacturer of computer-based digital audio production systems, will receive an Oscar for the creation and development of the Pro Tools digital audio workstation.

Annies Announce Full List of Juried Awards

ASIFA-Hollywood has released the full list of juried award winners for the 2004 Annie Awards. In addition to Gene Deitch who we reported on Dec. 16, 2003 would receive the Winsor McCay Award, the other winners include Walt Disney designer John Hench and Tony the Tiger voice actor Thurl Ravenscroft.
