The MultiChoice VUKA! Awards were announced at a gala awards evening held at The Bassline in Newtown, South Africa, on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006.

Representing MultiChoice's flagship corporate social investment program, the VUKA! Awards encourages established and aspirant creatives to produce a TV commercial for a charity or cause that is close to their hearts in the form of Public Service Announcements (PSAs). The top 20 commercials - 10 made by professionals and 10 by industry newcomers - will be screened on DStv channels from January next year.

Animated Feature Entry Deadline Nov. 1 for 2006 Oscar Race

Nov. 1, 2006, 5:00 PST, is the deadline to submit entry forms and supporting materials in the Animated Feature Film category to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for 79th Academy Awards consideration. Film prints must be submitted by Nov. 17.

Nominations for the 79th Academy Awards will be announced on Jan. 23, 2007, at 5:30 am PST, in the Academy's Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

MIPCOM Announces Mobile TV Awards Winners 2006

MIPCOM announces the winners of the Mobile TV Screening & Awards 2006. The international trophies were awarded on Oct. 11, 2006, in a packed auditorium at the 22nd edition of MIPCOM. The winning titles were chosen by an international grand jury from a total of 23 nominated projects.

Sponsored by Orange, Ericsson and the Korean Broadcasting Commission, the Mobile Screenings & Awards 2006 call-for-entries opened as of July this year and brought in a record number of 290 entries from 34 countries, a 30% increase in submissions from 2005.

ASIFA-Hollywood has issued its official call for entries for the 34th Annual Annie Awards honoring outstanding achievement in animation across film, television, commercials and short subjects. All rules, category information and entry forms are available online at www.annieawards.org or by contacting ASIFA-Hollywood at (818) 842-8330. The deadline to receive entry forms is Friday, Oct. 6 2006. All nomination judging material is due by Oct. 27, 2006. Final nominations will be announced by ASIFA-Hollywood on Dec. 5, 2006.

17 Scientific Achievements in Competition for 79th Academy Awards

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Scientific and Technical Awards Committee will review 17 scientific and technical achievements for 79th Academy Awards consideration, but its not too late to submit entries. Industrial Light & Magic is being considered for two achievements each.

The list of achievements is made public to allow individuals and companies with similar devices or claims of prior art the opportunity to submit their devices or claims for review as well, said Scientific and Technical Awards committee chair Donald C. Rogers.

Humans Wins Global Student Animation Awards

STASH MAGAZINE has announced the winners of the 2006 Global Student Animation Awards. The three Category Winners and Best of 2006 were selected by an international panel of 16 judges from all parts of the animation, vfx and motion design industry.

The audience choice award is the result of more than 10,000 votes cast by online viewers of the 2006 semi-finalist films.

VES Announces Awards Timetable

Key dates were announced for the 5th Annual Visual Effects Society (VES) Awards, to be held Feb. 11, 2007, for the first time at the Kodak Grand Ballroom, home to the Academy Awards Governor's Ball each year. Eric Roth serves as exec director of the VES and Jeff Okun chairs the VES Awards.

Tom Kenny, the voice of SpongeBob SquarePants will be amongst the presenters of the 2006 Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Aug. 19, 2006, at The Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, which is not part of the Emmy awards network broadcast on Aug. 27 on NBC-TV. AHDI Secures Distribution Rights For Spike TV Scream Awards 2006

Alfred Haber, founder of Alfred Haber Distribution Inc. (AHDI), announced that the company has entered into an agreement for the first time with MTV Networks' Spike TV to serve as the international distributor of SPIKE TV SCREAM AWARDS 2006, the first annual televised event devoted to celebrating the horror, sci-fi and fantasy genres. Haber has secured the rights to worldwide distribution of SPIKE TV SCREAM AWARDS 2006 with the exception of the U.K. and Canada.
