Pirates of the Caribbean Nominated for Webby Awards

The Webby Awards, the leading international honor for the Web, has nominated Industrial Light & Magic's THE SHOW microsite (www.ilm.com/theshow) featuring Disney's PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST for the Best Movie and Film and the Best Use of Moving Image and Video of 2007. The site was created by DHAP Digital Inc., winner of the 2006 People's Voice Award for the Build Your Scion vehicle configurator.

Michel Ocelot's Azur Et Asmar Wins Sprockets

The 10th annual Sprockets Toronto International Film Festival for Children announced 10 awards on April 22, 2007, at the Sprockets Awards ceremony at the Winter Garden Theatre. Four awards were decided upon by children's juries (three designated for feature films, one for shorts), two audience awards were determined by festival goers, three awards for Jump Cuts Young Filmmakers Showcase were decided by a jury of film industry professionals and one Students Choice Award was determined by high school students attending the festival.

ACT Announces Awards of Excellence Nods

The Alliance for Children and Television (ACT) will honor Canada's top English language children's and youth programs at the 2007 Awards of Excellence Gala on May 31, 2007, at CBC's Glenn Gould Studio in Toronto. The gala will be co-hosted by much-loved Kids' CBC host Patty Sullivan and Sid Bobb, who will also be joining Kids' CBC in the fall.

The winners of the 66th Annual Peabody Awards were announced by the University of Georgia's Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. Going green got a new meaning as the slime level reached new highs at the 20th Annual Nickelodeon's Kids' Choice Awards held Saturday night at UCLA. To the glee of the teen and tween crowd in house and at home, an impressive array of big and small screen stars were served up for sliming during the two-hour televised show. Among those targeted by the green, sticky liquid during the star-studded event were host Justin Timberlake, Vince Vaughn, Mandy Moore, Jackie Chan, Tobey Macguire, Chris Tucker and Steve Carell.

The Host Becomes Toast of Asian Film Awards

The South Korean sci-fi film, THE HOST, racked up four out of 10 prizes Monday night (March 20, 2007) at the first annual Asian Film Awards, including best film and best visual effects, presented to The Orphanage of San Francisco. The gala event was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center, kicking off the Entertainment Expo, which runs through April 15.

This marks The Orphanage's fourth vfx award for THE HOST. The others include:

Cartoons on the Bay International Jury Set

The International Jury for the 11th edition of Cartoons on the Bay has been announced for the event runs April 19-22, 2007, in Salerno, Italy.

They include Wolfgang Wegmann from Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), Germany; Jan-Willem Bult from KRO Youth TV, The Netherlands; Beth Gardiner from Playhouse Disney, USA; Céline Limorato from France 5, France and Maurizio Forestieri, animation director, Italy. The Jury members will select the prestigious Pulcinella Awards, designed by the famous Italian maestro of animation Emanuele Luzzati, who recently passed away.

Gears of War Reigns Over GDC Awards

ASIFA-Hollywood has issued its official call for entries for the 34th Annual Annie Awards honoring outstanding achievement in animation across film, television, commercials and short subjects. Maggie Gyllenhaal to Host Academy's Sci-Tech Awards

Actress Maggie Gyllenhaal will present the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences' Scientific and Technical Awards on Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at the Regent Beverly Wilshire hotel in Beverly Hills.

Gyllenhaal recently starred in the comedy feature, STRANGER THAN FICTION. Her filmography includes DONNIE DARKO, SECRETARY, SHERRYBABY and was the voice of Zee in one of this year's Oscar nominees for Best Animated Feature Film, MONSTER HOUSE.
